fun day today-mrs broke down

Last night at about 9pm my mrs broke down on her moped along the A40. She managed to get someone to pick her up and bring her
home-she has no breakdown cover.
The bike was left overnight with no security at the side of the A40, I told her she should of at least pushed it to some houses and see if someone would garage it for her till the morning or even leave it in the garden. Luckily it was still there this morning.
This morning I have had the unenviable task of getting the bike home. I went out with some tools hoping it would be something simple but I couldn't fix it so had to push it the 5 miles back to my house. Shes getting breakdown tomorrow as I wont be doing that a second time.
Its a Yamaha Aerox 100, it just died when she was traveling along.
After she stopped the battery seemed dead i.e. didn't have enough
power to turn the start motor.
Today I tried kick starting it but no luck. If the battery had run flat
because it wasn't charging would it just die like that when
your riding? Any suggestions what the problem may be as I dont want to take it to a garage if its something simple.

How many times did you try and kick start it? Normally I'd say if it won't start from a couple of kicks you have a different problem, but an old colleague had a PGO 125 4-stroke scooter that took me about 30 kicks to get started when his battery died (I have no idea why, perhaps he flooded it from trying to start it before I got there).

if the bike is running and not keeping charge the battery could be on the way out or the reg rec might not be working and be charging the battery when its running

If not charging it would soon discharge battery just powering spark plugs and headlight if on.
First thing to try is surely get that battery charged anyway.
Also could be partial seizure making it too hard to turn engine over on starter.

As a far out guess i say loss of compression, as thatll make the battery sound like it hadnt enough power to turn the starter, would also be why it wont kickstart, and if its a ped of that size and 2 stroke its not uncommon to do things like that.

Last time I had that problem it was the Pulse Generator Coil not generating enough charge.

I tried allsorts of stuff - replaced the starter motor, wiring loom (cos it was well interfered with anyway), spark plug, ignition coil and battery.

I'd already ruled out the reg/rec and CDI unit, the only thing left was the Generator Coil - replaced that and it came back to life. The inside of the pick up cover was absoloutly minging with sludge, not sure how though

Well when i seized my RS up and it scored the barrell, when the leccy start was tried it just made the noise as if the battery wasnt man enough to turn the starter motor. Is that not total loss of compression when it siezes and scores the barrell? and no it wouldnt bump after it had cooled down

For anyone whos interested, the garaged phoned today and said it had run out of oil and knackered the piston.
