We were having a discussion at work about our first experiences of Social Networking sites...and mine was UBoot. Oodles of years ago, but I made some good friends from there, who I still natter to these days.

We looked online, and low and behold UBoot still exists...!

So where did your internet social networking start (forums included)??

Here I suppose. I knew loads of people when I could be bothered to be nice to people and actually leave the house to meet them.

Then I became increasingly grumpy and antisocial.

Now I rarely even log on to MSN. Laughing

Probably habbo hotel. It's like a big graphical chatroom/hotel for those that don't know:

The original MCN chatrooms, back when they were a laugh, then MCN ditched them.

Cheers

I used to go on the internet in the library 9 years ago. I had a hotmail account, no one to talk to then but I done a lot of surfing. Better than sitting in house with arsehole ex anyway. Then when I moved back with parents I got a bebo to chat to my mate. Not the same now though with all the spammers and hackers. I keep to facebook.

I remember using MSN Chat Rooms back in about 1993 ish! Met a couple of 'ladies' on there, 1 was a right head case too!! Laughing And some mental Auzzy girl who kept promising to come over to the UK and visit me! Laughing

Now, I'm not really into any of that facebook stuff, I'd rather meet and talk to people the normal way. Only on two or three forums too, so these sort of sites are the only 'social networking' sites I do now.

Thumbs Up

Forums... The Wave (forget what it was called before that), FG4A, VCDq, Mindcontroll and a few other similar places.

Myspace or something named very similar used to give you free file storage space so Myspace was the first social networking site I used but my accounts always ended up getting banned. Laughing

MSN chat rooms, me and my mate used to cyber-troll them a lot.
Found my old faceparty page, and I am now deeply ashamed of the old me. It says I joined January 2003 though so that's pretty early social networking for a young buck like me.
Had a Geocities page back in the day (probably around 2000-2001) which had forums with a few regular chatters.

Yahoo chat.

It had general rooms, but it all got shut down in favour of messenger type stuff because of all the old pervs...

Found it really hard to get laid after that... Those old guys were really grateful...

I'm joking!!

No really...

Actually I had a freedomland box set with a keyboard you viewed through the tv in 1999. There was chat rooms in it and a few sites you could view but it cost a fortune as you where billed per miunute.

MSN Spaces. I seemed to attract weirdos on that so off it went. It was more of a blog than anything. The only places I spoke to people before this were the Blueyonder gaming newsgroups, and a few games; Counterstrike, Firearms and Midtown Madness 2.

I switched to MySpace but didn't really use it, just made a tarted up profile, chose my 'top friends' and left it. I remember using Bebo for a while to chat up my ex when I first met her. I deleted it in the end because I was always finding incriminating conversations she'd had with her scatty mates.

When Facebook came along (pre-bloat) I switched to that as most of my family are on it. I still use this but try and stay away from annoying 'applications', stripped down it is a great way to keep in touch with my family.

I only really started using pc's about 5 years ago - I was a late bloomer! Embarassed

Anyways, i started using faceparty quite a bit back then and met a few girls from there. Also i thankfully created a profile on Yahoo and although i never used the rest of the site it proved to be enough of a winning advert for myself to lure in my now girlfriend (of 4 years next Wednesday!) Smile

I have a bebo but hardly ever sign in. Think i have twitted once but never been back.

Other than that the only social networking i have done has been car or bike related forums. Have met a few likeminded souls, some even face to face through those but more aquaintances than what i would call friends.

I'm a wee bit surprised as to how many of you have met your better halfs via the internet.

Not shocked mind, (I've met my share of people using the internet) but it never grew into anything... (Unless you call drinking profuse amounts of alcohol then engaging in soulless but somewhat spirited sexual activities a relationship.)

I met my ex on the net and that turned out to be a disaster (apart fro the kids), my current missus I met through friends and she is wonderful, a nicer person than my ex. I vote for the old method of meeting people face to face Mr. Green

Cheers

Guess it would be faceparty, though I never got round to having a party on anyones face.

Then it was Myspace which by and large was full of ho's, bumped into a few people off that but eventually weeded out the ho bags and met my current missus though it.

Facebook was just to get back in touch with old mates whos contacts I'd lost and to kill time with.
