CG125, What should I do?

Hi.

I have a '99 CG125 with a siezed engine. It's solid.

I like CGs and as this is my first bike, it has sentimental value. I suppose it could be sold as parts, but I'd like to get it on the road. It is taxed but doesn't have an MOT.

It needs new forks, stripping and bits of the frame painted etc. I wouldn't get it done professionally. I'd hammerite the bits that need done after cleaning the rust off etc.

It'll need a new engine.

I'd be wanting to spend no more than £200 getting it back on the road.

Do you think I should bother or should I just get rid of it?

I did really like the wee bike but I wouldn't buy another CG because they're expensive for what they are because they're learner legal.

I'd probably learn a lot about bikes by getting it all nice again.

What do you guys think I should do?

I would be buying all parts second hand and doing it as cheap as possible.

Pick up a running mot failure for sub 200 quid, then use the best bits from both bikes to make your original one work.

This is a learning curve bike, strip it.
You will have plenty of help here to sort it, i bet you could get a piston and rings cheap if the barrell isnt to bad, but tbh, i've be tempted to bore it to a 145? or is it a 175?

How seized? Only just, or been sitting in a canal for a couple of years?

Cheap method that is worth a try. Whip the plug out and lob a load of diesel fuel through the plug hole and leave it to stand for a few days. The try the kickstart again.

Once you get it to turn over drain the diesel and do an oil change.

If you find it is seriously screwed when you open it up and it's going to be to much to repair I have a cg engine you can have. Not sure what year it is but it's free to a good home if you can sort some way of getting it to you Thumbs Up

A re-bore a piston will cost you maybe £100. I can't see it costing more than that.

If you have seized if from running it out of oil then I would expect there to be a load of other damage to the crank, etc.

Glad your stripping it, you'll need to fix that stand it looks too far forward, normally one of the legs snaps it's weld.
Also heres the bore out option i suggested.

Everything went smoothly, until I got to the last engine bolt!

I could've done everything I did before in the time it took me to remove the last bolt.

The next step will be to strip the engine and see what's up. I don't know if I'll be taking photos though, my bet is the damage will be quite embarassing. Embarassed

I had exactly the same bike, seized it solid.

Stuck some oil in the sump, and took the plug off and stuck some oil down there, left it overnight and i managed to kick it over.
it ran fine after that.

But as said above, the 150 does seem like a good idea Razz

The barell isn#t as bad as I was expecting, but it's still scored. Sad

I think I will need a replacement engine.

If it has done that through lack of oil then check the crank carefully. Would expect the crank to die before the piston siezed.

As chives said i expect the same, soo its been getting extremely hot, well if you ride them like me anyway, Do the overbore like i did it will work out miles miles cheaper than you think, use your initive mate, your a biker, not a car driver, so think outside the box.
