Ok, I had 4 things to consider ...

1. Oil in WR250F has done few hrs since last change, but at the end of the day only covered <200 miles.
2. Oil in SV - can't remember when last changed it ... (but pretty sure it has probably not done more than 2,000 miles since).
3. Oil in Van - thing smokes a fair bit on startup and probably puffs a little when going along!?!? - so needs perpetual 'topping up'.
4. new oil isn't free/really cheap

So ... me being really tight .. this is what I did ....

- Drop 2L of oil out of the SV .... pour oil into empty 4l oil bottle.
- Drop 900ml of oil out of the WR ....
- Pour the 900ml used WR oil into the SV
- Pour 1.1L of new oil into the SV
- Pour 900ml of new oil into the WR
- Top van up with the used SV oil.

Job done!! Thumbs Up

That's recycling that is!! Very Happy

Anyone else do this sort of shiz or am I the only person that is this environmentally friendly*?!!?

*ok ok ... 'tight' Embarassed

For somebody who iirc has claimed to not need to work it is now obvious why.

I wouldn't trust you near a skateboard let alone an ic engine.

While i like your style.
Often buying 2 ltr will work out more expensive per ltr than buying a 4/5 ltr pack....
So while you may have saved a few bob now, you will end up spending more in the long run.
Example from Halfords.....
Castrol GTX £19.99 for 4 ltr....
Castrol GTX £7.99 for 1 ltr.....

So you have saved £4.01 this time but if you do the same again next time you have lost... £11.97 .. Embarassed Shocked Laughing

Just hope they were all the same type of oil as well Wink

For the effort of changing oil I wouldnt waste my time 'recycling' oil when its not that expensive as doesnt have to be done all the time. I take it your changing the filter too as I would imagine used oil would shorten it's life.

Each to their own though

i still don't understand what you have achieved - someone explain this.

surely one of your bikes now is lacking oil now if you bought 2l but used 4l.

I think you have missed the point of changing oil. If you are going to put used engine oil in, you might aswell just leave the used engine oil in the engine a bit longer.

Its possible that the dirt bike is more sensitive to oil quality than the sv, and the sv is more sensitive than the van, but that's really only a hunch.

This multi vehicle oil recycling is an interesting concept, but I think its oretty similar to just not change oil as frequently as recommended.

Theres also possibilities of something going wrong, in terms of particles in the used oil, and what the oil fiters are designed to remove.

I guess its the kind of thing that is fun to do if you have time on your hands, and like messing about with engiens without spending money.

1. For years I used old engine oil to lube my chain!! Thumbs Up

2. I buy the oil in 4L tubs.

3. I only used 2L of new oil, yet gave the WR fully fresh oil (well 3/4 fully fresh) - the SV has ~50% new oil and 50% barely used oil, so that is good to go too ... and the remainder found/will find its way into the van where it will happily burn it off!! Cool

Errr, no.

2 litres in the SV was used to top up the van, so that's 2 litres yes(used, but not paid for).

900 ml from the WR into the SV (used, but not paid for)

900 ml new oil into the WR (paid for)

1.1 litre new oil into the SV along with the with the 900 ml used from the WR gives you the two litres taken out in the first place in order to top up the van.

2 litres from the SV + 2 litres paid for = 4 litres

I like your style, but not something I'd try.

It was kinda exceptional circumstances I just wanted to 'freshen up' both bikes, but nether actually needed a proper/full change ... and I needed some oil to top the van up, so I conjured the above plan!! Cool

but the oil in the bikes was pretty fresh so why not just buy 2 litres and top up the van. Much quicker. Very Happy
