most likely the cable has snapped where it goes into the engine, easy enough to check and replace.
Just get a pair of pliers, a cloth around the bit where you loosen the cable from the engine (as to not damage it), take out and replace. Jobs a good'un Thumbs Up If it turns out the cable isn't snapped it could well be the mechanism inside the rev counter itself, but its most likely the cable.

Hope this helps Wink

Basically , inside where the cable goes in there should be something pointing out a bit, kinda like a screwdriver bit if you like (Flathead btw Rolling Eyes ). on a new un-snapped cable there will be a bit on the end that fits over that.

Will try and get a pic for you if you're still stumped. it really is a 2 min job if that! i had the same when i bought my bike, its all a good learning experience Very Happy

Let us know how it goes

When did CG's have rev counters?

Have a search on ebay, likely to be able to get a replacement cable and will screw in Very Happy

I'm hoping you're talking about the speedo (which kind of acts like a rev counter if you know what gear you're in). In which case it goes from the front wheel to the back of the speedo.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?
