I work for a trade union as an administrator and I absolutely can't stand ring rounds. Were currently phoning all the public and commercial services to badger them about the Civil Service Compensation Scheme... all I get is dick heads answering and thinking they know everything already, or questioning me on things that I don't know about and making me look a tool as I try and blag my way through a conversation about Pay conditions in their workplace.

I'm slowly developing a pressure headache from the 150 calls i've made so far including phoning Buckingham Palace, and the Royal Household... Just hate doing this work.

Anyone else got tasks they can't stand doing, and reasons why?

The internal politics - it drives me up the bloody wall and is very counter-productive.

Jobsworths - no further explanation necessary.

Work for Kwik-Fit as most of you know. Last year I moved out of the small center I was based in. I'm now working towards a service tech course, in a £2mil center. (Biggest center in the SE)

To be honest, This time of year I'd rather be back on the tyres. Laughing

Doing steering racks and the likes of, at this time of year is an absolute killer to your fingers. Evil or Very Mad

Some of the bitching that goes on between departments is getting pretty boring now.
The seige mentality that some of the Drilling supervisors have, not everybody is out to get you, you can tell people when something goes wrong.

The amout of times I've gone to a breakdown on the drill floor only to be given a bunch of excuses before I've even tried to fix it. "It's never done that before", "It shouldnt do that", or the best one "I never touched it!". Really? You, the driller, the only guy operating the equipment, never touched it. AAARRGGGGHHH Just tell me what you were trying to do and what buttons you were mashing your fists into to get it to work then I can go from there. If you accidently hit the E-stop then at least I know why all the breakers have tripped.
God they piss me off some times. If they cant figure out something in 5 mins then it automaticaly becomes "something electrical". Well the reason the pipe die's couldnt grip the 5" drill pipe for 2 weeks wasnt because of a "dodgy soleniod" or "something in the softwear" or "not the right pressure at the manifold" but rather the fact that, even though we sugested it, you had not bthered to change out the 7,3/8th dies from the previous section. I'm no drilling engineer but I know 7" wont reach a smaller 5" pipe.
What do we report it as then..."dont put that FFS! we'll get shit for it", "write it up as a valve fault" Rolling Eyes

Hi

Where I am now I work from home most of the week. Nothing really bad, but being alone gets a bit lonely.

Where I was before, the whole place had gone badly down hill. Had been about the best place to work I have experienced, but became pretty much the worst. Zero trust of the staff, drowning in paperwork, nothing getting done, getting bollockings for finding work to do when I had nothing official to do, no training, a manager whose management style was that of a WW1 general (send em over the top, stuff the causalties) and being pushed into lieing to make the boss look good.

All the best

Keith

Customers with smiley faces until the last day of the job then a million reasons why they shouldn't have to pay. Glad I'm not responsible for the money collecting.

Which is a nasty temptation when you need to get something done (or possibly worse, when you just want to).

Mine's the same as Kickstart. It is so anti-social working from home and it does get frustrating. Having said that it is a big plus for much of the time - no commute, no office politics etc. I might look into renting a bit of space in an office/studio later in the year if cash allows for it, just for a change.

I can't complain though really. I haven't been headbutted by a cow for weeks.

Young drinkers that smash bottles all over the kids play area. They leave big shards of glass sticking in the ground near the goals on the playing field. They produce ridiculous amounts of litter, ride BMX's over the bowling green and seem to get worse and worse with each season.

Self righteous dog owners that yomp about the place as regular as clock work in all weathers who deliberatley go out of their way to find something to be outraged by.

Bowlers who forget that such a high maintenance evironment does require the use of engines.

Heroin addict parents picking their kids up from school.

People who operate Ride-on mowers like they're on a race track.

People who pretend they haven't seen their dog shit.

Know-all gardeners... yeah following the rule book is alright if you've got a domestic garden and all the time in the world... Now, if you'll exuse me, I'm going to continue 'pruning' these roses with a 104db of 2 stroke hedge trimmer carnage.

I think maybe if it wasn't for bowlers, dog walkers, children, teenagers, old people and cocky work collegues, the park wouldn't be such a bad place to work.

Yeah, it baffles them when garden maintenance men prune everything with petrol cutters. Laughing

I remember a customer moaning that I was cutting the grass too fast. Confused I asked for an explanation.

"You're pushing the mower too fast".

"Erm, it's petrol and self powered, I just steer it".

"The grass is being bent over by the roller and the mower is being pushed that fast that it's not springing back up until the blade has passed it".

"The roller is at the back". Rolling Eyes

"I want to speak to your boss".

LOL "OK".

Not having full time hours and not having a parking space at the university.

Apart from that I quite like it, the student I'm supporting is doing similar studies I did at uni, so I know what I'm writing about.

Travelling. I'm currently in Copenhagen, and have to fly to Norway on friday until Tuesday.

Its shit. I get to stay in nice hotels in nice countries with nice people, but I can't ride my bike, I can't drive my car and I can't see my girlfriend. I can't do what I want when I want. Sometimes it feels a bit like how I imagine being in prison must feel.

The company sees it as a kind of 'perk' but I see it as a load of ballache. Sure, it sounds like fun but its not. I've got to be on site tomorrow at 7am CET which means being up at 5am UK time after having got up today at 5am UK to get to Heathrow.

I know being in the office can be a drag, but I might actually be able to get stuff done if I didn't have to drop everything and go on a european magical mystery tour at a moments notice.

Can you tell I'm not happy right now? Rolling Eyes

To be honest, I would say travelling for me too. On an average day working in London I'd leave home at 5:15, start work at 8, finish at 4:30 and get home for 5:45. If I leave any later than that I have to face sitting in traffic for hours. I bloody hate driving and use my bike whenever I possibly can.

This is why I've avoided joining PCS. Lots of posters around the building telling me I'm getting screwed. I'm not getting screwed, I keep getting paid more money and spending it on shiny things.
