Can anybody find the owner's details for a black cab, licenced M859 UMT/WMT? I tried both on askmid and it came back as uninsured. Confused

The driver hit my parked bike, causing minor damage, and drove off, with a passer-by leaving a note on my bike with the plate number, saying it was a taxi.

My initial thought was to find the owner and invite him to pay for the repairs, or I'll report it to the police as leaving the scene of an accident. I'd prefer the first option, as the coppers wouldn't do anything anyway.

Same happened to me back in 07.
Apart from it was a woman in a Clio.

Knocked my bike over causing damage after i'd just got it tarted up! Evil or Very Mad
She drove off! Evil or Very Mad

Someone in a house across from where it was parked up witnessed it.
Apparently she tried to pick it up before legging it! Laughing

The witness took down the plate of the car and passed it onto me.
I contacted the police.
Turned out she was insured. Her insurance paid out for my bike
and a hire bike i used whilst the investigation was ongoing.

Helps if you have a witness to back you up, but i would definitely
contact the police as they drove off without leaving their details. Confused

Wrong, police like to stuff anyone who leaves the scene of an accident so they will chase it up as it's easy work, punch in the reg and find the owner. You can get an address by paying the DVLA £5 or something and telling them the circumstances, the police will do it for free if you ring them though and file a report.

What made you think someone here could get the drivers details for you? They'd either have to pay the DVLA and make a false claim (like it hit their vehicle or was illegaly parked on their property) or they'd have to be a copper and it'd be misuse of police information.

Neither of those registrations are black cabs. Your witness might have got the registration wrong and I can't be bothered to go through trying similar looking registrations, did the witness leave their contact details?

Report it to the police unless you're not legit.

I'm very legit, but the witness didn't leave their details, only the licence plate number which seems to be wrong anyway. As there were effectively no witnesses, I didn't think I'd get anywhere reporting to the police, but was thinking I might persuade the cabbie to pay up, as he'd think there were witnesses, as obviously I got his details from somewhere.

This ''witness'' may well have been the driver who damaged your bike. It's a classic rouse used by drivers when they think that they may have been spotted. They usually scribble a note containing bogus details and attach it to the damaged vehicle to throw off any genuine witnesses.

Who? Confused It's possible to get basic details about the vehicle, but not the name and address of the registered keeper without going through the DVLA or the police.

My mum, bless her, hit a car in a multistorey car park many years ago having just parked.

She was forced to leave a note by her sister (in the car), so got out and wrote;

Show me an example, there have been a lot of threads asking for someone to find them details and all they ever get back is the cars make/model/colour and whether it's taxed because that is all joe public is able to find out without paying or having access to police computers, you won't get an owner's name or address off here.
