can anyone help

on my 02 carbed r6 when i give it full throttle and it gets to 10k its dies and wont go over 10k revs but with gentle throttle it will go through fine. it coughs and splutters as if its hit a limiter when you do it ion full throttle.i think its being starved from air or fuel but want to know if anyone has had a simular problem?
now i noticed the other day if i leave the choke on a tiny bit its fine but turn it all the way off and it dies at 10k again.

im thinking the carbs need setting up but its only just had a major service 500miles ago but only just really been giving it some shit since the service...

anyone....?

cheers

Definitely worth checking the air system - not sure how any ram air works on a stock R6, but on my zx9 if the centre air line that comes from the two main air ducts was unplugged it would suffer similar problems to what you'd described.

Yep, check the airbox is seated correctly, check the ram-air pipes are fitted properly and check the airfilter is in there correctly ... seems they didn't put it back together properly!! Rolling Eyes

ok so it sounds more of an air problem than a fuel prob..if it is something to do with the air intake will it be something noticable when im having a look do you think?
ill let you know how i get on.

Yep, it should be obvious.

My guess is that the aibox isn't seated properly ... Wink

right i ripped the bike apart today!!!

its all fine.the ram air pipes are clear and fitted nice ,the filter is clean and seated right and so is the airbox and all breather pipes..
still got this problem though.
just noticed though that even with the choke on it still does it and only really does it from 3rd upwards. its bugging me.its like the bike just comes to a limit at 9.5k revs and the exhaust pops and bangs and the revs wont rise orless you gently go through that point of the rev range with no hard throttle.

anymore ideas?

cheers

I've got the same problem on my yzf750.

Does it feel like its dropping a cylinder? I'm presuming its something to do with the plugs/leads/coils on mine. Although i'm sure the slight hole in the exhaust isn't helping.

Let me know if you sort yours soon, mines gonna have to wait until I get my next instalment of my loan.

Have you still got the old plugs???

Best thing to do is to change them back to isolate/dismiss it is a plug issue ...

If it helps, it wouldn't be the first ever report of a NEW plug being faulty!! Wink

I would doubt it's a plug, check your fuel filter if it has one and i personally would strip the carbs and clean them anyway just in case.

Could be a blocked fuel filter not filling the float bowls quick enough if you can part throttle through it.

Just my 2 pence worth.

I doubt that is the problem, but no harm in looking!! Thumbs Up

Gary84, the filter is under the tank near the fuel tap .. its a big one, you can't miss it! Thumbs Up

First is to make sure the Carbs are ok.
The thing I'm concerened with is the fact it pops and bangs, that's unburnt fuel in the exhuast which makes me lean towards electrical.
Could be a number of things and only a process of elimination will solve it.

i had something very similar.

First day riding my r6 after the crash, but mine was worse and i couldnt get above 5k.

Airbox was the fault.

Take it off and make sure its plumbed in right.

2 tubes, one either side of the carbs, plug into the underside of either side of the airbox.

1 tube with plastic box thing plugs in from crankcase breather to rear of airbox

other plastic box comes from the top of the airbox, into plastic box at the end, plastic filter/collector thing plugs into the bottom of plastic box, and the final tube connects the plastic box to the top hoses on the carbs.

Took fucking ages to figure this out even though we knew it was the airbox at fault. The manual is useless regarding this.

If the bike was fine before, and only started doing this after a service, I'd take it back and tell them they fucked something up!

could this be crap in my tank? i sometime get a noise like there is grit in my tank but surely it would be blocking it all through the rev range not just at 9.5k revs.

how can i test coil and plugs?

could be an intermittent fuel pump?
check the thing that clicks when you turn the ignition. should be behind the rear shock sort of area. usually on a rusty bracket.

i doubt its coils or plugs as you said its fine up to about 10k
