Been a while since i had a decent project on the go so here it is.

It runs perfect and is 100% complete but it won't start off the button.Starts straight away if you put a live directly to the starter.
The wiring's been pulled to bits (just the outer covering) just to test the wires which are all good.I'm 100% sure it only has a bad earth somewhere.

Thing's to do:
Arrow wrap the wiring back up.
Arrow Find and fix the bad earth.
Arrow Free off the front calipers (rebuild)
Arrow Polish the newly painted fairings and stick on some decals.
Arrow Lot's of cleaning.

Not a huge project by most standards but a project non the less.

Total spend so far £150 {that's for the full bike}

Sorry,just noticed your reply Laughing
The bikes been off the road for about 3 years and no one could get it running properly (electrics) plus the fact that it's an old heap of shit Laughing

Small update to this.

Got the wiring figured out with the help of a member on here,
It now starts first time on the button which is nice.

Taped up most of the wiring but there's a couple of really small bits to finish off.

I also rebuilt the front calipers which looked like they'd not been touched since new back in 1988 lol.
It took 10 mins of 100psi through the calipers to pop the pistons out but finally got it.Theres a nack to it so the second caliper was quite easy.
Didn't get any pics of this as my hands were covered in brake fluid e.t.c.

Next on the list was to sort the exhaust out.It looks like someone has stood on it...
You can see part of the bracket in one of the pics below which was made by my mate.
It's basically two HUGE bolts with big hooks welded on the end which wrap around the frame then bolt onto the steel (actually RQT to those in the know Wink ) bar which butts up against the exhaust.
As you tighten up, the exhaust is pulled back where it should be,then with the help of a blow torch we heated up the back of the exhaust so it would stay in place once the 'jig'(contraption) is removed.

We then made a start tapping the original M6 headers to take M8 bolts to reduce the risk of snapping in the future.

Anyway,the pics:

The plan is to get everything working as it should and all the fairings e.t.c. lined up right (having to make quite a few new fairing brackets) before i strip the full bike for powdercoating.
The paint colour is horrible aswell so i'm going to give it a full respray in white Very Happy

Got too dark to finish the tapping,so i'll get that finished in the morning and post pics tomorrow of the full exhaust system all bolted up.

Another small update...Things are moving along slowly as my priority is getting the dt230 fixed.

I have now drilled & tapped the threads upto M8 so they should last a while Very Happy although still more to do.

It's still not 100% perfect but it's good enough to clear speed ramps which is all i really need.
I'm now having second thoughts about doing a full rebuild as it's going to turn into a money pit,so instead i'm going to remove the clocks and fit a single headlight, ditch the fairings and jobs a good 'un Thumbs Up (Bikes look better naked)

Next up is fitting the micron can back on then fitting a new(used ebay jobby) rear shock.

Going to look into what's involved in changing the rear end aswell as it's really ugly! Not really done anything like that before though so we'll see how it goes...

Yup i think so.

Someone has tryed to weld the can onto it but the weld has fell to bits Laughing

EDIT:
I had to cheat with this exhaust a bit as i just can't do anything with it without buying some sheets of titanium and spending ages messing about with it.
Found a full unused vance & hines sp? exhaust system (incl silencer) on ebay for £70 so i had to have it.
I then found a swingarm complete with shock and hugger from a fazer6 (£10 Smile ) which will hopefully fit with a little bit of tweaking.

Lost interest in this bike now Laughing so it's going on ebay as is...
It's just too small for me,i'm 5ft11 -14 stone so the bike looks like a kiddy toy with me sitting on it Crying or Very sad

I started with the best intentions aswell but such is life.

Anyone want a swap?

thats a shame. did you get the starting problem sorted? i wouldve checked for dodgy relays first. if it started by direct connection to the live then the earth must obviously have been good.

i would be interested in a swap but i already have 2 bikes to do and only a CBT lol

Yup starts first time off the button now(thanks to finpos on here).

It just needs a rear shock now and it's ready for an mot but i just can't be bothered with it.I'll never use it so theres not much point in taking it any further...
