53 in 50 zone on A road

I was traveling on a A road doing 65mph, I looked at my sat nav and I missed a 50mph speed sign I think it was there as the other cars started slowing down (btw my sat nav hasent been updated in years and was showing that the speed limit is 70)

I slowed down, passing the cameras at 53mph.

These were overoad cameras, 2 sets of them each way.
If it clocked me they only got my helmet (tinned visor).
Could the other camera (on the other side of the road) be used to ID me? Or is it for the trafic going the other way only?

Was that 53mph on your speedo? It's possible with the inaccuracies that you are below the speed limit anyway.

Hi

That is a SPECS camera. Notes down the registration plate at each camera to know when a car passes each one, and compares the times for a registration plate between the 2 to work out the average speed.

Doesn't matter what speed you pass the actual cameras at, just the average between them.

Apparently they dont work if you change lane, and usually there forward facing, so pretty much useless for bikes!

Although, they now have rear facing ones all over the Cat and Fiddle

if you were doing 53 it's going to be slightly under as speedos over-read slightly. and with the speed camera discrepancy rate of + around 3 mph you should be fine

It still dismays me how many people slow down as they pass them then shoot off, to slow down for the next one. Obviously they dont grasp the meaning of the word average too well.

I've been through loads of these without caring about my speed. The forward facing ones can't read your plate therefore can't track you.

i believe that there is a forward facing camera on tower bridge.

speed = distance/time

if the distance between the two cameras is 1 mile and it take you 60 seconds to do that distance then you are travelling 60 mile an hour.
i would imagine that the cameras would measure the time taken between successive number plate reads.

With forward facing average speed cameras you can speed as fast as you like on a bike. Indeed, on my little CG i've been going 70MPH past cars stuck doing 50MPH before in an average speed zone

I always drive 55mph in my car on 50mph SPECS controlled areas, my speedo will read high, the cameras wont nick you at 50 so all is good .

If you were travelling at say 100mph through the first camera and then pulled over into the hard shoulder just before the second camera and waited for about 15 minutes, had a tab etc and then carried on. You would be fine right ???
