more of an issue really, its running alot cooler than the rear pipe, hands on the zhorsts from the cylinders and the rear one gets miles hotter than the front? the plug lead is sparking good, so is the cap, plug is new but with all that working its still running really cool?
Help.

The rear cylinder will tend to run alot hotter than the front anyway, the front one gets alot more cooling from the air flow around it and the rear is incased by a bike. The same goes for inline 4's, the two inner cylinders will always run hotter than the outside two because they get more airflow.

Is the bike running well and revving up smoothly? What is the plug conditon like on both the front and rear cylinders, they should both have a light brown, tan or grey 'tinge' to them (no excessive carbon, oil or blistering). If all looks and seems fine you are probably worrying about nothing.

As my pa always says 'if it ain't broke...' Wink

But if you have to have a fiddle, go for a minor service (plugs, filters, oil) and balance the carbs.

Just re-read your first post. Did you mean you can put your hand on the header or just a quick touch?

At the risk of making a mountain out of a mole hill. Is it def running on the front cylinder?

It does get warm just not as hot as the rear one and yes hand on header. Apparantly i need to check the balance and so forth first before jumping the gun.

assuming you have a good spark, i would say you have a lack of fuel.

I believe this one will be carb'd, have you tried draining the float bowl on that carb to see if it isnt full of water?

If it was my riding would of gotten rid of that.
Valves are tight, so worn seats i'm told. I need to pull the carbs apart too saturday night and rule them out, I don't know what size shims are in the bikes so i cant order any up to fit, i also want to fit APE manual CCT's aswell.

Not really. Plenty of water in the float bowl wont shift no matter how hard you push it.

pfft, 30p!

What makes you think your valve clearences have closed up? Did you measure them?

David Silver Spares would be a good place to check for honda bits.

Yep checked the front cylinders clearances and they where tight. It needs a huge going over, i doubt there is anything serious, it is a honda afterall, but knowing its not right is bugging me.

too rich?

thermostat stuck open?

Thermostat stuck open wouldn't effect the exhaust pipe and both cylinders would suffer, rich on the other hand... But what was rich?
