 |
|
Hello,
Got my licence a few weeks ago now and been out getting used to the bike as much as i can...
Im pretty confident on the bike and will give it some on the straights then i come to the corners and seem to be continuously assesing my entry speed, once in the corner ill happily accelerate round and out of it.
I know im pretty new and its gona take time, just looking for some advice or experiences to help me out, had a car up my arse earlier in a corner i slowed down quite a bit and i dont want to hold the traffic up either, but im not going to let a car dictate how fast and capable i am
Been on youtube and had a look at some cornering technique videos... |

Best way to improve your cornering is to go out with someone competent and follow them. Then practice. Thing to remember is road surface, camber, temperature, and weather all come into play.
And yeah, experience comes with time, so just be patient and let yourself learn at your own speed. Sod what other road users think.

as much as it's not GOOD advice, I found that going into a corner wayyy too hot (not on purpose, just didn't realise) and HAVING to lean the fucker over lets you know how far over you can go.
*disclaimer* yes it's not good advice, but it is in a way, if you need to turn more, lean more, it's the only option. *don't die* ____________________ 2017 KTM 350 XC-F - 2014 Yamaha R6 - 2005 Yamaha YZ125

Try going out early evening when the roads are quieter and most communters are at home. Pick a nice twisty road and go for a sensible ride. Adjust your speed so your entry to the corner isnt too fast then as you go into the corner keep looking at your exit point. As long as you keep focusing on your exit you will get around the corner and practising this enough will enable you to gain confidence. Dont think about how far to lean over, just think about going through the corner as smooth as possible each time. ____________________ Current Bike - 2005 Triumph 1050 Speed Triple

You'll only gain confidence with either training or practice, and training will only take you so far.
As you're new it's better to be entering the corners too slow than too fast, because it saves having to roll-off the throttle mid-corner, which will tip you in and require either application of power or a tightening of the turn to stand you back up again (neither of which might be desirable). Another reason to start more slowly is target-fixation. You should always be looking at where you want to go, not where you bike is pointed. It's not rare for an inexperienced rider to run right into the kerb on even a gentle bend simply because they have fixed their vision on a point and headed straight for it. It only takes a moment of this for the brain to lose track of it's constant speed-and-direction calculations and then panic sets in. If you are travelling more slowly you give yourself more time to react, your brain is processing info at a slower rate and you're less likely to freeze up and run off the road.
It also gives you a safety-factor to deal with decreasing-radius turns. Motorway slip-roads are the most commonly found example of these. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
