Had a look at my chain yesterday and noticed that it sits on top of my centre stand.... I don't have a picture, but I will get one tomorrow (just on my way to work).

My chain doesn't seem that slack either, so why's it like that? I thought it may be causing damage to the chain in the long run, so thought i'd best mention it!

Cheers,
Steven

So how much play is there ? It's usually about 1" I think.

ok

check the righthand side of your centre stand. there should be a flat bit with a hole in.

is there a rubber bung bolted on it? if not that'll be your problem.

there should be a rubber bung on it thats about 3cm big that rests against another flat bit in your exhaust midpipe when your centre stand is up. if this is missing your stand will sit too high and touch the chain.

unfortunately iirc they dont make the bungs anymore so you'll have to improvise something Smile i had to do it with my 1st cbr and used a rubber door stop with a bolt through it.

That sounds about right because the centre stand also touches the end can - it took me a while to realise what the noise was when going over bumps! I'll have a look tomorrow, thanks!

I had a similar issue on my RXS where the stand was coming up too high. I taped a bit of wood to the exhaust.

Had a similar problem with my cbr when i got it. Due to a poorly fitted after market can and link pipe. The bolt/bung that held it off the chain was at a funny angle.

My CBR had the rubber on the top of the exhaust mount rather than below it; as a result the stand rested against the bolt head and the chain ran along the stand leg...

Hi

I had the same thing with a 400 Superdream many years ago, and also used a rubber door stop as a replacement for the rubber stop for the centre stand.

If it is a non standard exhaust then there might not be provision on it for a stop for the centre stand. The Akrapovic on the Bandit is like this.

All the best

Keith

How odd, I've had the same thing happen this week, went over a bump, big clang! Thought I'd broken something, when I got to work I looked the bike over and on the side-stand with a little effort the chain touched the centre-stand, after a little investigation I discovered my bung was also missing. Doh!
