 |
|
Just curious if anyone knows off the top of their head, or can check for me, how much oil I'd need for an oil and filter change...
I have a 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N, and it's overdue for an oil change.
I already have a new filter, and a magnetic drain plug but less than half a jack of bike oil waiting at home. I haven't changed the oil on this particular bike before, so would hate to have drained the oil only to find out that I don't have enough to replace the new oil.
(I have a Haynes manual at home, but I'm at work at the moment, and curious if I should pick some up on the way home.)

Will check if it's stamped, but if it's anything like 3.3 litres I'll probably need another jack. I have just under half of a 5 litre jack at home, so probably not enough ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

I have a 2003 bandit 600 naked, and it does take 3300ml. That is stamped on the bike. ____________________ Suzuki GSF600 K3 (in the fastest colour, black). |

I always change the oil filter whenever I change the oil.
I don't adhere to the 3300ml, I will measure out 3 litres, then add more oil so it is between the high and low mark.
I then start the engine and let it run for a couple of minutes, then switch it off, leave it a few minutes, then top up if required.
I only posted about 3300ml as it is stamped on the bike and I use it as a guide. ____________________ Suzuki GSF600 K3 (in the fastest colour, black). |

Measure what comes out. Saves time for the next service.
Manual for my 250 says 2lts when dry. 1.7 when oil change. I checked mine before emptying (middle of dipsick). Measured what came out (1.8ltrs)
Jobs a good'un .

3.3 L straight oil change,
3.5 L oil change + filter,
4.6 L if youve just rebuilt the engine and given it an overhaul, (which you probably haven't ) ____________________ CG 125 > Bandit 600 > CBR 600 FY > Street Triple R |

The filter on a bandit is tilted upwards so the oil drains out of it ____________________ Suzuki GSF600 K3 (in the fastest colour, black). |

No, I wasn't been serious
But it is best to get the oil warm before changing it, as it will be thinner and drain quicker*
