Just curious if anyone knows off the top of their head, or can check for me, how much oil I'd need for an oil and filter change...

I have a 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N, and it's overdue for an oil change.

I already have a new filter, and a magnetic drain plug but less than half a jack of bike oil waiting at home. I haven't changed the oil on this particular bike before, so would hate to have drained the oil only to find out that I don't have enough to replace the new oil.

(I have a Haynes manual at home, but I'm at work at the moment, and curious if I should pick some up on the way home.)

Cheers Thumbs Up

Will check if it's stamped, but if it's anything like 3.3 litres I'll probably need another jack. I have just under half of a 5 litre jack at home, so probably not enough Confused

I have a 2003 bandit 600 naked, and it does take 3300ml. That is stamped on the bike. Thumbs Up

Is that not just oil. Usually with a filter too change they take a couple of hundred ml more.

I always change the oil filter whenever I change the oil.

I don't adhere to the 3300ml, I will measure out 3 litres, then add more oil so it is between the high and low mark.
I then start the engine and let it run for a couple of minutes, then switch it off, leave it a few minutes, then top up if required.

I only posted about 3300ml as it is stamped on the bike and I use it as a guide. Thumbs Up

Measure what comes out. Saves time for the next service.
Manual for my 250 says 2lts when dry. 1.7 when oil change. I checked mine before emptying (middle of dipsick). Measured what came out (1.8ltrs)
Jobs a good'un Thumbs Up .

Exactly what I did with my previous bike, but this is the first change that I've done with the Bandit.
Cheers for the advice Thumbs Up Karma

3.3 L straight oil change,

3.5 L oil change + filter,

4.6 L if youve just rebuilt the engine and given it an overhaul, (which you probably haven't Thumbs Up)

The filter on a bandit is tilted upwards so the oil drains out of it Thumbs Up

Are you serious with that post? Rolling Eyes
Oil filters still like to hold oil when tipped anyway and will take hours for it to completely drain.
Do you change alot of oil filters and work on alot of bikes just out of curiousity?

No, I wasn't been serious Razz

But it is best to get the oil warm before changing it, as it will be thinner and drain quicker*

*serious comment.

Yes it would, go for a 40 min ride and then as soon as you get back whip the drain bolt out and remove the filter, it will be like water and extremely hot obviously but just for the tards i'd thought i'd remind.
