GS125 acting up after top end strip down.

After this thread https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=196765 my bike has started acting up.

Acceleration is no where near what it was like before.
Only gets up to 45 on the flat.
Feels like someone is tugging the back of the bike like it is misfiring or something.

We had the whole top end off and adjusted the valve clearances to 0.15mm on both.

Anyone got any ideas? Only suggestion so far is valve clearances too small.

I know roughly what speed I am doing. I can see everything go past and estimate a speed. Definitely not doing over 50.

I assume the carb was cleaned and that all the pipes and tubes are clear of obstructions and that the jetting is nice and that the spark plug is sparking brightly.

In which case do a compression test.

What do you mean by a top end strip down, have you had the head off and barrel? poked about and put it back together.

1 your timing might be out by one tooth or more
2 Your compression is low, possibly gummed up rings
3 Valves need adjusting properly, the gaps are too large and it's overfueling. or too tight and your not getting enough fuel/exhaust
4 the carb is full of crap/needs adjusting

I think shaking the tank around when it was nearly empty mixed up some crap which got pulled into the tank when we took the top end off.

Still doesn't feel 100% right and I think the valve clearances should be 0.12mm-0.13mm or something so that might make a difference.

Manual says 0.08-0.13, may be worth setting them at 0.10 to see if it helps? I think 0.15 is a bit loose tbh, how long did you take it out for? would it have been hot enough to start tapping?
