Passed my CBT the other week, and collecting my bike today Very Happy [YBR125]. With my tiny amount of biking experience i have noticed that when i open the throttle up my wrist starts to ache because of the angle it rests at. The only way i can see around this is to position my hand so my wrist is bent and pointing upwards when the throttle isn't open, but this makes slow riding uncomfortable Shocked
So, any ideas as to how i can get round this?
THANKS!

Start using your right hand when knocking one out, this will improve your wrist strength. Thumbs Up

When you ride the YBR mate have you been opening the throttle fully, as far as it turns? Because you don't need to. I did the same thing when I first started, when you start ridding your bike experiment with the throttle and find out where the power kicks in... you should find that you don't need to turn the throttle far to get full power, this instantly makes things feel better and your wrists should be ok. Mind you it still takes a little time to get used to riding all the time but it won't take too long.

It's their initiation.

and to the OP - try loosening your grip slightly when opening the throttle whilst keeping it accelerating with your fingers, and move your wrist up and over the grip a bit more, to a more comfortable positon.

however with a YBR125, i'm pretty sure the amount of throttle movement from beginning to end is a lot less than bigger CC bikes.. so if you're having trouble now you need to find a solution.

That makes more sense. Seems i miss-understood my CBT instructor when he told me to fully open it. Cheers.

Few tips;

Stretch your muscles. Stretch your fingers and wrists. Clench and unclench your hands. Do it often, especially before riding your bike.

Relax your hands when riding and hold the grips as loosely as you can. Many riders tense up and squeeze much harder than necessary.

Try not to lean against your handlebars. The pressure adds extra tension in your hands and wrists. Tension creates soreness.

Cruise control system is the way to go if your serious, and worth every penny for the pain relief it can provide. Thumbs Up

This is something i tried on my CBT but found it difficult to change the position of my hands without dropping the revs too much.

It's not that major a problem, but better find a solution save it becoming a problem.

I bet it's just the open throttle thing.. the other advice would be more suited to bigger bikes. The YBR has a really easy throttle movement, and the riding position means your not leaning against handle bars.

You can ajdust your hand grip when you are up to speed, but basically because the bike is wee you will need to use most of the throttle positions whilst getting up to speed. On a larger bike you wont need to unless you are pinning it, I frequently need to regrip when putting some beans in.

You will get used to it, but it is basically a matter of finding somewhere in the middle where you are comfortable most of the time Thumbs Up .

Cant you hold the throttle open with just the palm of your hand? This is what i do when on motorways or whatever. rest the fingers on the brake lever as opposed to death grip the throttle. Smile

Only noticed it when I fitted heated grips, in fact this time for this reason I am not intending on fitting heated grips. Smile
