Hi guys,

Was looking at getting a 600 but after a looong talk with my family they agreed to pay the difference to get me a less powerful bike (got an extra 2 grand from all my family Razz ). So, instead of feeling unsafe on a 600, I got myself the best 4 stroke 125 that I could find, a new Yamaha YZF R125!

I thought i'd post some pics. Before anyone says the usual you're daft for spending so much on a 125, someone care to save me from ending up under a truck for the sake of some guy telling me my bike was too expensive and wasn't any good because it was too slow? I feel safe on a 125, and so that's my choice, okay? Smile

So, here's some pics, and I'm perfectly happy with my little commuter I got here.

I've gone for something I enjoy, and I do enjoy it, and that's all that matters. Very Happy So, off from the price tag, as I paid the same as my old CBR for it really, what do you guys think?

Thanks matey, I remember your pic from a previous post. Theory is booked 3 weeks away and I'll pass my test before my CBT runs out hopefully. Get rid of the the L plates, put a tail tidy on, and it's a good looking cheap running commuter Mr. Green

I think it looks good for a 125, but others are gonna come here and piss on your dreams.

If you're doing your test just to take the L's off then dont bother.

If you're doing your test to get a bigger bike then this was a waste.

its not a commuter. you may use it as one, but its not...

also - see here https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=198051 (just in case)

Yeah I'm doing my test to take the L's off, but after previous crashes I want to do my test and take the pass plus and anything else out there to help me avoid potential accidents. Of course, you can never prevent some shit pulling out on you though ... Sad

I use it as a sporty commuter but it handles so beautifully, it's so smooth and corners like a dream. I let the gf's dad have a go and even he said it was incredibly fun around the lanes and honestly the best handling and smoothest bike he'd ever ridden.

It's not super fast, but it's nippy through towns where I will be the majority of the time. So I'm braced for the asses out there who want to piss on my dreams... But i'd like to thank you for not being an ass Very Happy

Went from Kendal > Blackpool > Manchester > Blackpool on one tank of petrol (£11 ish)!!

Looks like an awesome bike, not overly keen on the hump but otherwise excellent.

I ended up with the CBR125 as I'm poor but I would have definetly gone for the Yamaha! How much did she set you back?

It's supposed to be a better bike than the CBR, do you find it nippy? How comfortable is it to ride? I suppose the tank must give your back a rest and a more stable ride

Compared to the CBR (I had a CBR 125 for 2 years before this), it's comfier, nippier and infinitely more smooth.. What I mean is, on your CBR slow down to first and as you slow down it'll jerk a bit wont it. None of that on the YZF. Also you can lean forward onto the tank more, and yes it's a lot more stable because it's bigger.

Only downside is the turning circle compared to the CBR. The CBR can turn really easily in the road where the YZF requires a hell of a lot more space to turn.

It's nice, but you're naive if you think having a small 125 will make you less likely to end up in an accident than a 600.
Experience counts more than anything and most of the time a blind car/van/lorry/bus driver is at fault anyway.

Good idea doing the extra training afterwards though, just take it easy and understand the risks come with motorcycling as a whole and not engine size Wink Thumbs Up

Loved the look and size YZF's, in my area they were about 2k secound hand though. For that much I got a brand new Rieju with a Yamaha engine in.

On the extra training, I have got some biker friends around the corner from me who all say the 'Bike Safe' days are the best training you can have. I might use that as an excuse for popping up the Ace cafe with L plates on if they put one on any time soon. £30 for a days training with a few coppers. Quite cheap too.

I'm pretty sure if you're under 21 it's free... Or at least it used to be. Might have changed now.

Good news for Jimboo! Would be good news for me too if I wasn't old enough to be having my first mid life crisis and doing the whole thing of doing things I haven't done before. Like riding motorbikes. Bugger. Embarassed

Nice. Wish I had done it Sad

Ah well. No point in me paying the 30 quid now as I doubt it'll even put my insurance down by that much! Laughing

Might still be worth doing m0l0t0v. The guys I know are/were really into their bikes. All 35+ age wise, and all of them said it was the best £30 they spent in relation to motorbikes. Smile
