Yes i have punctured my inner tube while putting on the new tyre in 3 places! Evil or Very Mad

So i thought why not patch it up?

3 hours later, i get a good seal on one and the one i previously put on blew off typical........it bubbles up and shoots off!

So 2 hours later, re do and i get a perfect seal on it or so i think, test in water for bubbles, its great no air leak!

oh no........bubble...............bubble..............bubble................bubble so jeez a slow leak!

So while i got pissed off i got to work on the next (rear, and is another innertube thats ok) wheel, changed tyre over refit inner tube without nipping and pumped up! holds air so i'm chuffed to bit its not flat! So one wheel done! This time using fairy liquid for ease of fitting.

So why didn't i do that first?

Does anyone has nightmares on this PITA job?

One time its easy, the next is taking the piss.

Any tips on better patching?

Hi CB, I have found inflating the tube just enough to make it round inside the tyre before setting the second bead does the trick. It will also help to seat the valve so when you inflate fully the valve does not slide back into the tube. Once you have the second bead in place try squeezing the tyre in sections, again this will help to locate the tube inside.

Cheers Russ

Have taken that into account, any thoughts on the patch repair?

Has anyone successfully repaired and patched up an inner tube?

One tip on getting the tyre back on the rim, do not use fairy liquid, it's a great lubricant but will corrode the metal like heck. Nothing is friendlier to rust than washing up liquid. Use talcum powder (dry), does the job without corroding plus your fingers won't slip so much when you push the beads on the wheel rim.

I'm roughing up the hole area but not enough i think as its near the seam, which i also think I should rub down flush. I don't chalk, I believe thats only for marking the hole right?

I have managed one hole ok, i keep testing and it doesnt leak so thats ok. Just a really slow leak on the other one (same tube).

I have found that just leaving the rubber glue as a blob all around the edges of the patch tends to make the rubber soft and i can stretch the patch over into a smooth edge after letting the glue dry in about 2 mins.

Bicycle tubes are a piece of piss to repair!
Motorcycle tubes are not Evil or Very Mad

Tubes are cheap but as my luck with changing tubes are pretty poor, it starts to add up quite some bit!
