We talking about the Hyosung here?
Depending on eBay, I'd bank on the final drive shaft being a cheaper part, but probably much harder to find. I've found the drive shaft for the 250, but not the 650. Sorry.

You might be able to see if the SV650 engine will fit in there?

Yes it's the GT650r

The nut wound itself off the shaft, and the front sprocket jumped off the splines onto the threads, thus grinding them off.

Found the shaft for $89 but then theres fitting and such, plus a new washer and nut.

Well, now's your chance to practice your spannering skills.
Provided you're out of the nuthouse now, I may well be able to offer some assistance.

East London.
If you're already stripping the engine down, there's not a huge amount of point in taking it to a garage - you're about 85% there, at that point. Buy a gasket set, get the seals you need, and crunch through it. Seriously - if you're going that far, then there's no need to hand over to a garage.

:edi: I thought you were based near to Enfield. I'm guessing you're much further north, if your profile is correct.

Warped.

Since you have to either fit a new shaft OR a new engine, why not fit a new sprocket, then the nut (or A nut), then tack-weld the nut onto the shaft with a mig welder? You MIGHT wreck the seal, but it's unlikely, you WILL ruin the shaft, but it's already ruined, you've basically got nothing to lose.

Even if it lasts long enough to wear out the sprocket, grind off the tack-welds and repeat.

Just thought, the shaft probably isn't hardened, so you could also drill & tap it for a bolt to secure the sprocket.

He can rage all he wants. ITS A HYOSUNG. If it breaks, see if you can bodge it, if not, buy a Japanese bike, where spares are wonderfully available, and cheap.

Or drop an SV650 engine in it, probably get one for no more than 500, a Good Hornet lump is about £300

i agree with the engine swap. probably better if your keeping the bike for a few more years. good old sv650 v twin charm good ish power and plenty of grunt. pretty much the same output.

if not then like has been said, if you have it all in bits just do the swap yourself?

Hi

Think the first thing I would try is to get someone with a bit of experience an the right size die to try and recut the thread on the shaft.

If you do need to replace the shaft I presume they are vertically split crankcases so would probably require a complete engine strip.

All the best

Keith

I'd rather have a working SV than a non-working Hyo Razz

Looks nicer for sure, tho Hyosung are supposed to beat Suzuki in the water soluble bike stakes.

As can be seen, a tw@ to source parts for, whereas SV parts are so common they give em away in Lucky Bags Very Happy

If an SV engine fits why not just get an SV engine?

Warped - I'd suggest getting hold of a piss-cheap seized engine off of something, strip down the gearbox until you're comfortable with how it all fits together, then fit the part yourself. THis apporach will fit well within the grand you've allocated.
Until Hyosung's parts network improves, that would seem to be the best option you have.

Failing that, see if an SV engine will fit. Not ideal, I know, but it's an option nonetheless.

Fair enough. Could you cut it down and use a smaller nut? I wouldn't think that the nut should have a massive force on it (just so long as it can't come off).

All the best
