 |
|
Just about to replace my Dunlop Qualifiers after only getting 1500 miles out of a rear! My local bike garage suggested I try some Maxxis tyres as he reckons they are great tyres for the price and will last a bit longer than the Dunlops.
Can anyone give me some feedback on these tyres? ____________________ Current Bike - 2005 Triumph 1050 Speed Triple

I expect a lot of wear as its an R1, but 1500 miles on a tyre isnt what i expected. Yes I want grip but a bit more longevity. Its for street use only. Been quoted under £200 a set for these Maxxis fully fitted but am more than happy with other suggestions. As for the Dunlops, many have said they are crap on the R1 but I liked them, just not the wear. ____________________ Current Bike - 2005 Triumph 1050 Speed Triple

I plan to get them for my GSXR-1000 K1 shortly.
I've yet to see the difference between the majority of tyres (on the road), I think it's all a load of tosh just so people have something to talk about. I'll always buy cheapest. And the Maxxis fit the bill this time round. £125 delivered, fucking bargain. |

Well, They aren't the best quality tyres in the universe, and for an R1 I probably wouldn't skimp on tyres TBH.
Personally if I were you I'd go for Pirelli Diablo Corsas. Pretty hard wearing but grippy. The Dunlop Qualifiers are super sticky IIRC, and the Maxxis will be pretty hard and a lot less grippy. The Pirelli might be somewhere in between I reckon. |
yep, looking for hard wearing and grippy too. (arnt we all) ____________________ Current Bike - 2005 Triumph 1050 Speed Triple

I've been using the Supermaxx Sport, on a 1200 Bandit, a GSXR750 SRAD and a GSX1400 ... all tyres were taken to the edge ... superb tyres.
Rears are lasting about 3k on my 14, front should last about 3 rears.
Just ordered another pair today ... £125 delivered |

Whats the point of having an R1 and then running the cheapest tyres you can get???
If you only lay the power down in straight lines and dont like the best performance (ie G's safety margins) then be a cheapskate on your tyres...
Personally give me a shit (in comparison to a R1) bike with good tyres rather thana great bike with okay tyres... ____________________ [Current Bikes - GSXR-750 K5 & C90-97 ] [Previous Bikes: Runner 125, YBR 125, GS500, Bandit 600, Hornet 600, ZX6R-99, C90-99, R1-99, XT600E-04, GSXR-750 K4, CRF250L '16] |

Its not about running cheapest tyres its about longevity and grip. £140 for a tyre that last only 1500 miles isnt cheap in anyones book. But if thats what i have to pay, so be it, just wondering if there is a better option. ____________________ Current Bike - 2005 Triumph 1050 Speed Triple

I should point out that my experience with a Maxxis Supermax was not good:-
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=183969
Now the tyre was clearly faulty and not all Supermax will be like that, but felt I should point it out that quality control at Maxxis might not be all it could be ... ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

thanks for all your replies, interesting comments. Have just got back from my local garage and had a chat with the mechanics. Going to give these a miss and try some Super Corsa 3's instead. I dont want to take any chances.
Oh and this is how my Dunlops came to an end....
