I have an '03 Suzuki GX 125, wish is pretty identical to the GS 125.
Basically the starter motor has packed up, well, it makes the noise but doesn't turn anything (best I can describe it).
My mate thought it might just be carbon brushes or something silly and has a spare one I can have any way.
Went to take it out, but it's not as simple as pull it out, so start to unbolt the casing where the generator magnito thing sits, and oil starts dripping out.
Just wondering why or how there would be oil in there. If the seal has gone, would I have to take out the whole engine and strip it just to change that seal? ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille

You should be able to unbolt the magneto plate and remove it and see the oil seal beneath, a careful hand should be able to drill a small hole in it without damaging the area that the seal runs on.
Next you screw a small self tapping screw into the oil seal and yank the bugger out with pliers, 2 opposite screws may be required.... Install a new one with a suitably sized deep socket (to drive it on the outer rim) then build it all back up and jobs a good-un |

So it's nothing to worry about?
I need to somehow get the starter motor out and it's not as simple as "tug" it out (I was hoping it would be).
So I don't know whether taking this casing off would help.
Would this mean that I will have to drain the oil out to do it?
Thanks for the advice, put my mind at rest, sounds depressing but never had a 4-stroke before ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille

put it all back together and it was fine, you've probs done the same |
I didn't take the magneto off though, just started to undo the case and oil started dripping out, not gushing, but dripping.
Might take the case fully off and see what happens, need to work out how to get the starter motor out first though. ____________________ Previously owned: Kawasaki KH125, Suzuki GP125, Suzuki GX 125, Honda CB125 TDC '83, Honda ntv 600, Kawasaki ER5, Kawasaki ZZR600, Aprilia RSV 1000 Mille

As said I don't think you need to worry about a bit of oil dripping out, but are you sure you need to be taking the engine casing off? Isn't the starter motor just bolted onto the front?
Also are you sure the starter motor is your problem? Does it bump start? ____________________ Europe Trip 2009 |
