I've been thinking for ages about buying an NC30, so took the plunge about 2 hours ago and started bidding on one Very Happy I don't really like the paint job, but nothing I can't fix with a couple of hours and some paint Twisted Evil

It's got braided lines, a Scorpion end can and a new battery. It has under 20,000km on the clocks, and was MOT'd just 1800km ago. As I haven't picked it up yet, I don't know anything else about it, but have these pictures from the advert.

20k? Sorry but it doesn't look like a 12,000 mile bike. I personally fitted a MPh speedo to mine, so the milage was bollocks. The best way to tell is general wear and tear along with modifications. Drilled bash plates on the peng hangers and an aftermarket exhaust are signs someone has already tried to 'improve' it. Check it over with a fine toothed comb and make sure it's alright. I'm not saying for a second not to buy it, just play it safe and assume its been messed with by a moron.

Unless stated and checkable assume that the reg/rec hasn't been updated to a non explosive newer one and budget for doing so. If the owner has just had it on charge when you get there, don't plan on riding more than 8-10 miles Laughing

Cracking bikes, far too many are used and abused by 17 year olds keen to get 1mph more out of them to race their mates. If your looking to give a little TLC, this is probably the bike for it Thumbs Up

I'm going in thinking of it as mileage unknown, but with an open mind, hoping he's being honest. I hope it's a case of someone wanted to modify it with the paint etc. rather than it's done a million miles and needed tidying up to look half decent. I'll be on the look out for replacement foot rest hangers, the drilled ones look shit tbh.

I've wanted one since I was 12 and saw on in RC30 colours, now at 19 with a 30 hour p/wk job I can actually afford it.

I'll be looking at the reg rec, and seeing if it's a finned one or not. Luckily my NC23 had had it changed before I bought it. I've factored in about £150 over the buying price for any odds and ends it may need, including the reg/rec, brake pads and service items. Unless he has a recent receipt for a service or parts for one I'm assuming it will need one

I'll have quite alot of spares from my project soon (including complete rearsets), let me know what you're after and I'll see if I have decent spares.

The paint scheme is going, no two ways about it, just depends when I get the money for it to be done properly Smile

I'm not entirely sure as I've not seen the bike in person yet, but will try to find out Thumbs Up My CBR's also points to the floor, but not quite the same angle Thinking

Cheers timmy, would definately be interested in a set of standard rear sets Thumbs Up best price on ebay atm is £30 for the pair plus delivery! Shocked

As I've said, I saw a UK spec NC30 in the RWB scheme when I was 12 and fell in love lol so badly want it!

I'm probably going to get it home, strip it and rebuild it so it's mechanically sound, MOT it in september and then get the paint work done, then when my insurance on the CBR runs out sell it and run the NC30 for a year or 2 Smile

Went to Aylesbury last night to pick it up and pay for it, rode it the 220km back to my dads house. I've got an A4 sheet full of things to do, but they can wait until I'm not almost broke!

I got it for £690, mot until september, tax until april. It has a laserline alarm/immobiliser which is ok for now, but will most likely disappear as I don't want to run into any problems with it later.

I can't take any pics right now, but will soon. It's not perfect but for half what some of the NC30's on ebay are going for I'm not complaining, it doesn't need much to be a decent example by the looks of things Smile

EDIT: Had a look through the massive stack of paper work for the bike, looks like it was imported in '97, first mot'd in '98 and then yearly until '02. There's a years gap when it was done in '04 and '05, laid up for 2 years until '08. The MOT certs seem to indicate that 20,000km is about right, but no definate way of being sure unfortunately. There's receipts for loads of stuff, mostly service items, there was one for the alarm/immobiliser to be fitted in 2000, and one for the data tag Smile looks like it's been fairly well looked after whatever the mileage is.

You got it for a good price. I'd say that's worth closer to £900-£1k.

The paint job looks alright, may not be to your taste. Might be worth selling your bodywork as a whole, including the tank to someone who wants it.

then maybe you could buy some random bodywork, if you're going to get it sprayed etc anyway.

Might make a bit of money that way. All depends if the paintwork's good on the bike anyway I guess.

I'm after a r/h footrest hanger, standard bar ends, standard yoke top nut and cover, side stand rubber, a pair of mirrors and a couple other niggly bits tbh

I've been looking on ebay for a while, seems everything is over £1k for a taxed and tested one. The paint job has been done to a pretty good standard, I just don't like it very much lol will consider selling it whole, but will buy a spare set of panels first, just incase Smile

Just so you guys have seen it, here is a pic of the rear wheel, in all it's rainbow flake horrificness!

tbh i think it'll handle sweet enough on the 17/18 setup it has already, might get the suspension looked at and set up for me at a later date. plus I can get an NC30 rear wheel for not alot, whereas an NC35 one is going to be quite expensive.

Anyway, here she is as she stands right now,

saving up my money to buy a new screen brace, mirrors and a proper single sided swing arm paddock stand

The 17" rear isn't for handling, its so that something more modern than a BT090 will fit.

Be warey of screen braces off ebay, i've known a few people buy "straight" ones that were anything but!

I wouldn't bother with a padock stand, they are quite expensive. I use a bottle jack under the adjuster lock nut for getting the back in the air. But an abba stand for a similar price and use it on all bikes. If you buy a single sider without bearings in it will mean you can't turn the rear wheel.

What is the red wire under the pillion seat?

BT090s seem to be ok, as far as I've read they're widely regarded as one of the best tyre choices for smaller sports bikes. I'm not going to be pushing hard enough to need anything more modern than the 090 Smile

I'm looking at the Tyga one, it's supposed to be for race use only, and will cause the mirrors on road bikes to vibrate =/ can also get one from HK for about £25, so might be worth a punt.

I'm still looking for one, but looking for second hand ones, buying one will make it easier for when I take the wheel off for powder coating, because I won't have to worry about the jack slipping or the bike losing balance while the wheel is off. The red wire is for the LED on my alarm Smile

No way is this going to be street fightered lol I have a very specific paint scheme I want that requires the fairings to be there Very Happy It's a fun little bike, but from experiance not the best for working on, things like the oil filter mean you need to take the lower radiator off to get to it =/

Got both rads off, as expected they're caked in 19 years worth of shite, the lower one is now soaking in a bucket of warm soapy water, will blast it off with the hose tomorrow. Bad news on the upper rad though, it's totally bent, not enough to warrant binning it, but one end is 5-10mm lower than the other Sad been looking on ebay, and may well pick up one just so I have a decent top rad Thumbs Up

I nearly died when I saw how much replacement ones are, £410 for the bottom rad, £310 for the top! All in that's £720 in radiators, for a bike costing £690 Confused
