After almost 5 years of biking all year round I finally got round to doing my driving lessons/test, passed second time.

Being a little bored/fed up of biking at this point I decided to switch to a car if only for the winter time.
So, sadly not being able to afford both a car and a bike I said goodbye to my 2007 Versys for a very good price and purchased a Ford Focus 1.6 (02) soon after.

Good car in its own right, been very well looked after and looks good for its age.

FUCK ME am I bored however!
Even taking it up to some twisties is just dull.
Also quickly built up a hatred of taking passengers, I so used to being alone on the bike.

Seriously regretting this decision but attempting to stick to it as it does come in handy.
On the lookout for some cheap as shit bike already.

Cars are shit in comparison to bikes.

Close thread.

Seriously though, I can honestly say that I have more fun on my 125 motorcycle than I do in my car.

Although, I'm also really surprised you got fed up so quickly of cars.

I'm exactly the same, 5 years on a bike and now have a car, thankfully ive kept the bike though.

The car is dull although i do find driving quick (as quick as can be expected in a 1.4 C2) quite fun.

The car is good for driving to all the BSB meetings though especially with its 75mpg Laughing

What did you expect from a 1.6 family hatchback? It's supposed to be boring. Which is why they have sports cars. Sell it for RWD 90s Jap car & take it out on the twistys in the rain & see if that's any better. Smile

I enjoy driving even if the car is slow as the bike is for mostly for pure fun which gets a bit tiresome, especially as winter is approaching. A car is a welcomed break, not to mention not gearing up every time just to pop down the shops. (& chaining it up)

Do you not get bored in the traffic watching people on bikes whizz past you?

I hate driving in the UK, constant stream off monkeys who can drive because they know where the throttle pedal is.

Only drive if i really really must, that usually means because the foam canon won't fit on the bike

I can not drive and have been riding for 5 years. Funny how it is also time for me to take lessons soon.

Perspective is required here. Someone who owns a 'Blade would likely think your Versys was boring as fuck too...

As much as I would like to try a sports car, the insurance costs are insane. Hence the 1.6 Focus. Cheap & reliable.

Maybe in a year or two when I`ve got some NCB on the car.

Driving is great if you live out in the sticks. I can have as much fun in my R26 Megane as on a bike but with airbags!

As Jodie said, it's a 1.6 Focus, what did you expect? Smile

Treat it like a 125.

A focus handles well, but has no power. Revs the tits off it and find some roads that suit it well.

You can still have fun in a 1.6 focus. It'll be a different kind of fun to what you can have on a bike. Bike has lots of power, drive out of corners and narrowness. Car has lots of grip, then it starts sliding. They get fun when they start sliding.

I've got a Divvy 900 which isn't exactly a speed demon but thought I'd never enjoy cars again... until that is we 'temporarily inheritted' a Mazda3 MPS. Geez I swear it's as fast as the Divvy - I'm never going to use it for commuting though!! Laughing

I share a 1.1 106 with the GF and still have a bike but love have access to a car.

The way I see it is that all car are slow, hense why I got a really slow one. There is no point trying to go fast and slower cars are normally cheaper to run/insure.

I love being able to transport loads of stuff in it and being able to take people places!

I pity you, My gf has said she wants to buy a car, I whole heartedly support her in this but she refuses as she cant justify having 2 vehicles.

She has asked me if I would like to learn to drive a car as it would be much more practical to own a car instead of a bike and I said nope!

Laughing

Its taken me until the tender age of 35 to pass my bike test (slacker and lack of money) and now I can ride a big bike she wants me to get rid of it to have a cage...... no fkin way!

Well you've not heard wrong! The power in this is amazing, and also difficult to control if you're trying to accelerate fully on country roads! Laughing

Getting a decent or sporty car could help, but getting the same performance as a bike may be too costly.

I've only been riding a year, but I can see that my bike is more exciting than my car, and can out accelerate it without even breaking a sweat. (zx6r vs BMW e39 535). But getting out of my car into my wifes car feels similar, its less exciting, slower, handles worse. (BMW e39 535 vs audi A4). The week we had a Citroen C3 as a loan car was sheer automotive hell.

Its all relative. Getting out of a Focus into a better car may be the way forward. My old hobby was trying other peoples BMWs on a Saturday. Arrive at used car place, show interest (calling the previous day about a car works wonders), show insurance, swap keys have a lovely test drive, then move on to the next one. As long as you arrive not looking like a chav, are polite and look like a buyer, you can usually have a go in most things to compare and contrast models.

I feel your pain, I sold my 05 Speed Triple (1050cc) and bought a 1.2l 2003 Seat Ibiza, god it's slow, I mean reaaaaaal slow. I just can't afford the insurance on anything else, £1200 tpf+t, the bike was £260....

I had just as much fun in my laguna as I did on my gt550. Mine only cost a couple of hundred quid, so I wasn't too bothered revving the shit out of it. Bouncing it off the limiter and making it slide around wherever possible made it quite a laugh, and because it wasn't an obvious boy racer car, I got some very funny looks.

Should have got the st170 Twisted Evil
I'm considering dropping that lump into my car, ripping off the pas and air con to unlock a few more ponies.

I loved driving when I was readying myself for my test. However, after I passed, I was bored within a week - found myself driving with no hands etc to liven it up. Yeah, I nipped that in the bud quite quickly. Now I just play music to myself or mumble about other road users - "CUNT! Use your indicators!" etc. I feel so much more worked up when driving, its insane.

Luckily, I have both, though.

I'm in the opposite situation - been driving since 17 so nearly 10 years.

Only getting round to doing my bike test now

Cars are great but cost a bloody fortune. The wife and I used to have one each but I cycle to work so bought one between us.

Diesel renault scenic so basically the car for us is a tool and nothing else. Its great for the kids and moving stuff but beyond that its nothing special

To get special from a car you generally need to spend a small fortune insurance on the scenic is about £400 a year wheras I've been getting qoutes of around £180 for a fazer when I pass.......

Ill be using the bike to commute when I can't be assed cycling, and for fun.

But I couldn't not have the car, especially with the kids. Horses for courses and all that
