Refer to this thread for the starter idea.
Started work on the frame today.
Going to be roughly 1.8m x 1.3m with 60hp gsf400 engine hopefully.
The black marks are where some paint caught fire
Things I need to buy
Engine (sorted, but need to pay and pick up, probably in the next 2 weeks.
Front wheels assy. Looking for moped style front forks with wheel, lightweight but able to cope with a bit of battering where a pushbike wheel wouldn't and a full size motorbike wheel and forks would be too big and heavy.
Some sort of braking system
Chain and sprocket, need engine first so I get the right size chain.

If you could find a moped front end with brakes still attached, that'd be spot on. Just cut the headstock off and weld onto your frame.
Keep the front brake, and then as far as back braking is concerned I'd probably look into getting a split cable.
Lever underneath clutch lever? Split cable running to a caliper on each of the rear wheels? Just an idea, I've not thought about it but it may be feasible.
Looking forward to reading the updates on this
Cheers,
Steve. |

Well the plan is a moped front end if I can find one or motorcycle if I can get hold of one cheaply.
Update on the engine, I may be able to use an fzr1000 exup motor which would just be plain epic, far too much power for it but would sound incredible on a homemade trike.
The engine will be mounted forward of the rear axle which should spread the weight until I accelerate above about 5% throttle where steering will be non existent due to the front wheels being nowhere near the floor. |

FZR1000 EXUP?
Do it.
as far as steering is concerned, could you not just twat a wheelie bar on the back of it or something? Might help to keep the front end relatively low. Steer it through leaning? I'm sure you could get it to drift round corners if you positioned the seat far enough forward to position the weight better or something.
Not sure.
Sounds fucking epic though.
Cheers,
Steve. |

Today was fairly productive.
Managed to source a rear axle from an old trike. Bought off one of the technicians at our college for £20. Turns out he has a spare front end off an old trike. Wheel, forks, brake, mudguard etc so that was purchased aswell for another £20.
All that needs to be done now is weld the axle and brake assy onto the frame, weld the front end on and weld the engine on which I don't have yet.
Anyway, here are pics of the axle and cut down frame. We had to shorten it for the axle to fit.

As you can see this axle is smaller than I had anticipated and putting mad4it's exup engine on there will not do it any favours and I have located a tasty gsf400 engine which will be more suited to this. 60hp still enough to wheelie and do some damage though.
I am hoping this drifts like a mofo and if it is really unstable (which I hope it is), welding some skids on the front corners would be awesome. Just throw it into corners. |
