I was thinking about buying a Suzuki AY 50 K3 and was wanting to find out basic information about a 2 stroke engine. How to maintain it? How many miles before it needs an engine rebuild? How many miles can it do on a full tank? That sort of stuff. Also if anyone knows any information about the Suzuki AY 50 that would be a great help too.
Thanks

wont really need an engine rebuild you dont full throttle every wear and use good oil and change the spark plug every few month

rs50 ftl. Engine rebuild by the time you get to the bottom of your drive

see the bit called 'the workshop'?, post in there, plenty help available. don't post anything about de-restriction. you'll get the piss taken out of you.

How many miles before it needs an engine rebuild?

around 15k-20k miles i'd say, just to be safe. will most likely do a hell of a lot more than that. Big difference paying £30 for a piston& rings and £120 for a rebore though

How many miles can it do on a full tank?

about 80-90 miles - 6.8L tank, 70mpg

That sort of stuff. Also if anyone knows any information about the Suzuki AY 50 that would be a great help too.

i've never owned a 50cc 2t, don't quote me on anything... just what i'm assuming from the fact that they're all the same.

Cant be bothered to look it up, but If I'm right in thinking the AY50 is a Suzuki Katana moped, Then they are really cool scooters.

Dead quick off the line as they are fairly light. They are electronically restricted via the CDI as well as a restrictor in the variator and exhaust.

Dam_Buster had one years ago when I had my speedfight. We fitted a bigger carb, 70cc MHR Bore kit, Leo-Vince ZX exhaust, lighter rollers etc. And although it accelerated extremely quick for a scooter, it still would not pass 45mph, Where as my Speedfight with a similar spec was capable of over 60mph.

I had a liquid cooled Suzuki Katana (AY50 WR) for a number of years, bought it new in 2000. Used it to commute to work and never had an ounce of bother. The liquid cooled ones are much better.

Fitted a Malossi 70 kit, uprated Delorto carb, Malossi gear up kit, Leo Vinci ZX exhaust, variator kit and springs and then had it set up by Taffspeed in Newport on the Dyno. To be fair it then went like a 100m sprinter on steroids. Went off the clock downhill and would cruise at 50 - 60 real speed without issue. Luckily they have decent rubber for a scoot and the brakes.......well i stopped.

It's different to the usual peds out there and cheaper although doing any of the above will have licence implications for you and will be illegal. I had my full licence and just fancied seeing what i could create Thumbs Up

And how exactly does that information help a 16 year old choose his <50cc transport?

Im 16 and riding a 2 stroke MBK nitro (Yamaha Aerox). As said before, just keep it topped up with good quality 2-stroke oil (Castrol etc) and everything should look after itself (unless it overheats, or you buy a shed) id recommend liquid cooled as well...just to make sure it doesn't over-heat.
mines an 03 plate on 4000 miles, about 700 of those are mine, so id hope it doesn't need a re-build during the time i have it.
mine does about 100 miles on a 8 litre tank (costs roughly £7 to fill it up fully), although full throttle for sustained periods destroy the efficiency Confused

Ye, I bought the Suzuki in the end. 22k on the clock, but had a rebuild at around 20. Got the seat off and had a good look at the engine and everything looks pretty good. Thumbs Up Put a bit of oil on all the connections e.t.c. Only downside was that the seat lock has half a key stuck inside so I have to get that sorted out before I can take it out for a ride. 12 months tax and mot for 300 quid, I thought was a good deal. I reckon it's still got a lot of life still left in it yet.

I got a moto roma wasp in me garage, derestricted (I think), would do 58mph (downhill with a tail wind though), would happily sit at 45-50, just that I traveled about 54 miles a day and figured I was killing it as I was full throttle all the way.... mind you.... it never seemed to bother.

I was always told 2 strokes are very unreliable.... I got mine as a non runner.... changed the fuel lines, scrubbed the carb, topped it up and it ran fine since.

Mind you... they look like shit
