my 02 636 ninja has been cutting out sometimes. Sometimes it starts other times it doesn't. On occasion, when you turn the key nothing happens, no lights, horn or even the needle sweep. When it does start, during riding, the revs drop to about 3k and then the bike cuts out, i've tried gassing it when the revs drop, sometimes it just cuts out other times it comes back to life.

The bike is used all year round. I use Pro FST in every tankful. I've checked the fuses, side stand switch and some connectors. They all seem ok. The battery is regularly plugged into a conditioner and is only 4 months old.

I'm at my wits end as this is the last thing i need this time of year with being skint as it is.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks,
Sam.

This is also the first thing I would check with the symptoms you mention.

Next, electrical connectors.

It will be an electrical problem, not a fueling issue.

Thumbs Up

You'll need to check the battery terminals are tight, then try and follow the thick black wire from the negative terminal and see where it earths on the frame. It's usually only around 5-6 inches long.

There may also be an earth strap from frame to engine. Kawasaki like to earth them on the top of the gearbox (under carbs area).

Also why the pro FST stuff? Surely it doesn't suffer carb icing since it doesn't have carbs Laughing

The battery terminals are tight. I'll trace the wire from the negative and see if its ok.

c-dug: Its the first 636(A1P) which has carbs Thumbs Up
