And Lancias were great cars, as long as you wheeled them into the back of a truck and rebuilt them every night with rally spec parts.

Are those stock classes? Does that bike bear any relation to the GT650R that rolls out of the factory?

That's a genuine question - I'm open minded about Hyosungs, but being able to produce one good bike doesn't say anything about their ability to make every bike to that standard.

I think they are the best of the bad bunch. Fair enough they are improving at a constant rate but so are the extablished names. So in that respect they will always be playing catch up.

aren't they Malaysian or something?

anyway, i think they are definitely the best of a bad bunch and the nearest thing pacific rim/chinese are producing. the 125 and 250 are great (sound good with a can) and look like proper bikes. fair enough they aren't the quickest meerkat in the desert but they look good.

Korean.

I doubt it is difficult to make a good race bike when most of the components will be changed for aftermarket parts anyway. Doesn't mean the road bikes will be any good.

As it is, I am open minded about them (i.e. I wouldn't buy one unless it was VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY cheap or the owner was katherine heigl and 'favours' were included in the sale).

They are Korean. I have stood by building ships in Korea. They are built to a price rather than a standard. Look at thier cars, daewoo, hyundi. Not the most sort after brands.

Mr Warped...... According to your avatar/profile, you own one?.

So tell us how is it to own one?
Has it broken down a lot?
Can you get spares?
Is it as quick as Jap bikes of the same cc?
What`s the build quality like?
Does it handle well?
Do people point at you cos you`re riding a Hyosung Laughing

yes ten years ago i would have agreed with you having worked in new and used Hyundai's and Kia's for 5 years. the modern Hyundai cars are a different thing all together these days, if you get a min when passing a dealer go in for a quick look, you will be taken aback by the standards in the cars. they are still cheap but they look brilliant and drive well. 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. i'm now in used cars and have no affinity with new cars sales.

Samsung are Korean, why is no one questioning the build quality of their products all of which are built to a price too.

650 is the largest model of them till now. I'm curious when they will make over 1000cc model? I think manufacturing large models is important for progress.
Samsung is a world leading company in electronics and forever rival of Japon hard to beat it. Hyosung is like Japan of 10 years ago. Very different imo.

I have one, the 125 one! Its a 56 Reg with 17,000 miles on it, i purchased it back in 2008 with 1090 miles on it.

In the 2 years i have owned it, it has had the following problems.

Corroded main ignition wire, this was due to loads of crap from the front wheel, fender extender and tying the wire out of the way of the spray.

Faulty side stand switch, bypassed and never had a fault from it.

Dropped on the side, air box lugs snapped off so wasn't sat on the Carb right, so dodgy running.

Swing arm pain peeling.

Down pipes are mild steel crap.

However, it starts on the button, handles well and sounds good and has been a fantastic commuter. I'm just hoping te 500 cc twin i replace it with in spring time will be as good.

I own a 2006 Hyosung GT 250 with 6000 miles on the clock and it is a pleasure to own. I commute on it all year and it has never failed to start or even complained about being ridden.
Spares are easy to get, you can either buy from UK dealers or do as I do and buy from Hyosungsource.com who are in South Korea and 50% cheaper. Takes 5 days to arrive.
250 V - Twin has plenty of grunt for commuting and is rather good on fuel.
Build quality is up there with Suzuki and Kawasaki.
The bike handles really well for a commuter, it inspires confidence in your riding especially with my new tyres.
THe usual response from people is that it is a very nice looking bike and they can't believe it's a 125 / 250 V Twin.

I would definatly recommend owning one and would condsider one amonst the main brands if I was buying a new bike.

Good bikes when they are running ok.

Has it broken down a lot?
Yes, many times. Rolling Eyes

Can you get spares?
Yes, but hard to get a hold of and are very expensive.

Is it as quick as Jap bikes of the same cc?
Depends on the bike I suppose.

What`s the build quality like?
Decent-ish, however my GTRs were fairly new at the time.

Does it handle well?
Yes.

Do people point at you cos you`re riding a Hyosung Laughing
I hope not. Laughing

I had one, fair enough it was a 125 GT Comet, but served me well. Wasn't the fastest of 125's but didn't have any reliability issues with it Thumbs Up

He's one a regional club racing series in the US; not sure that REALLY means anything?

Was going to suggest it puts them one step above Ducati, but of course the Ducati commuter bikes seem to race ok - it's their sports bikes that can't seem to handle club racing.

Interesting, how many into the 4 made you decide that? If all 4 were shit then surely that says as much about you as the bikes? (shrugs)

I heard a rumour on a Hyosung forum that the chassis couldn't cope with a 1 litre engine.

Despite being based on or being similar to the Suzuki SV, the chassis had to be altered too much to be able to handle the engine, and was proving to costly to produce.

I dont know how much truth is in this story - like I said; it is second hand information so dont take my word for it, just what I read somewhere.
