 |
|
So anyway, I bought a Yamaha Aerox 50cc. It has a 13" rear wheel, which makes rear tyre choice almost nil for nobbly tyres.
It's a 3 stud rear wheel, so I bought a Peugeot Speedfight rear wheel, which is also 3 stud, and 12". Fantastic I thought!
Of course the PCD was wrong. So I bought the disc and hub assembly from a speedfight, which should fit over the splines of the final drive on the 'ped.
Here's the kicker, different sized splines.
Now I've looked at the various parts in the final drive and they look completely different. So does anyone have any bright ideas? I've thought about chopping up the two splined shafts and welding the Speedfight one on the end of the Aerox one. But then I'll have an issue that the new end will be bigger than the hole in the crank case, so it'll never be removable. And of course welding it perfectly straight and true will be almost impossible.
The other possibility is fabricating some sort of adapter plate to adapt the PCD, but will obviously space the wheel out slightly.
Sigh.

Get your welder out and add the swing arm of your pit bike on to back of the main swing arm?
You can then add an auxiliary sprocket and chain drive to the current setup.
Anything to assit the competition in a sportsmanly fashion!
You'll also have the added benefit of reduced wheelies and better stability!
Err, more seriously... could you you not weld or otherwise attach some new studs to the original hub? |

Judging by your performance last time, you'll crash in the practice and 'adjust' half the modifications anyway .
Not sure if overall I'd worry that much about it being 10mm out - suspect it's an issue for tarmac more, more as we've seen, running knobblies at the limit of grip on tarmac isn't really ideal anyway . |

Sell the Aerox and buy a Speedfight?
Of course, that would be too easy ____________________ 1998 CB600F Hornet |

If the PCD is so similar, cant you drill the bolt holes slightly bigger in the speedfight wheel?
Failing that, as has already been said, check to see if the offset is the same on the wheels.
If it is then get a PCD plate made up. If it's 10mm thick, just get 10mm skimmed off of the speedfight wheel. Simple. |
