Filling up a bike rad without getting an air lock?

Most bikes fill from the radiator then top up the expansion bottle once it's full.

Have a look and see if there is a bleed screw in the system.

Only bike that has caused me major problems getting the radiator to bleed through was the CX125. All others have just been a case of fill the radiator and squeeze a few pipes then start the engine.

I usually just fill it up, run the bike for a minute or so, bleed from the screw just above the water pump and top it up again.

Well the bike idled for several minutes and the temp didn't go above 80 so I guess it is sorted.

On a side note how much coolant should an IL4 600 take roughly. I put the best part of 2 litres into the Triumph and still couldn't see any in the expansion bottle.

There shouldn't be anything in the expansion bottle until the bike is up to running temp.

Don't, whatever you do, take the radiator filler cap off when the temperature guage is reading 118 degrees Celcius. It'll explode boiling coolant all over your face and you'll have to spend the night in hospital.
