so i took my bike to the mechanics because the throttle was stuck (it didnt snap back like it should) so i took it to my nearest mechanics and they said its something to do with the entire throttle thing that they need to replace my bike has been in the mechinics for over a week(they said they would have the part yesterday) but then they said they wont get the throttle part till next week.. I wanted to know what is this part called? so ill be able to try find it my self..

I would call the mechanics to see what part is called but is not open on sundays.

and apparently the part is around 25-35 pounds/ so all together ill have to pay from 95-75 pounds for the service is that right?

It's probably the throttle cable that needs to be replaced.

It's the throttle return spring in the carb that pulls it closed but I've never seen or heard of one breaking. If the throttle doesn't snap shut, it's usually because the throttle cable has become damaged and is sticking.

I'd imagine a DNA has a long throttle cable with an awkward routing to get to a rear mounted engine so your prices don't sound too far off the mark. They probably have to dismantle half the plastics to get at it which takes a lot of time. Otherwise it's a 5 minute job to change a throttle cable by itself.

Sounds like crap to me...in the carb, (if its your DNA) your throttle slide will have got stuck, or got some crap in it...or broken the woodruff key or something along them lines. I'd have just pulled the slide out myself, its unlikely any new part is needed. But its a bike shop you've taken it to, so they are more than likely replacing parts because they can.

The twist grip?

Motorcycle throttle assembly (that's what I call it).

Did they say it was at throttle twist grip end or at the carb end as that is where the cable ends are held in place?

Maybe it's the spring which if I am correct forces the thottle to the off position when you release the throttle or possibly within the twist grip where it holds the cable end in place has has worn through

Could also be a worn out throttle slider in the carb sticking on the sides.

You're basically paying them for the part and about an hours labour. Not an unreasonable price. That's what you pay to have stuff done at a shop.

Or have you dropped it at some point? The twist grip mechanism is plastic and I've seen them break underneath the grip.

As Stinkwheel stated labour cost is reasonable 1 hours work by mechanic, but till there is clarification to exactly what part is needed replaced we don't know what they have quoted is reasonable priced or not?

Where you got cable also sells that spring if it is that needs replaced!

Best thing to do is state to them that you wanted to be contacted before work goes ahead, as it's only a quote at this stage and as you said the throttle doesn't spring back as it should.

Ask for a detailed explanation of what the mechanic is wanting to do to the bike to fix it and if they are vague and not clear with an answer then they could be fleecing you for a lot of money when it's a job you could do instead buy only buying the part for it if it's easily fixed!

They clearly mark the parts!

https://www.oemparts.eu/default.asp

Gilaraspares/Piaggiospares/Symspares is crap at marking the parts on their list as can be seen via this link and I am worried that a company has to advertise under so many names why not not just say AJ Sutton Spares.
