That'd be fine but bearing in mind it isn't an O ring chain, you'd need to keep up with cleaning/lubing it more regularly. Making a chain last is all about proper maintenance - cleaning, lubricating and making sure it's correctly tensioned. Blowing my own trumpet here, but my current chain has done over 16'000 miles and I'm replacing the chain/sprockets only because the front sprocket is worn (chain still has lots of adjustment left) and it's best practice to replace it as all as a set. |

As a lube, well, chain lube is probably alright stuff to use on it
You clean it with something like diesel and a scrubbing brush. |

Paraffin in a squirty bottle to clean, with a stiff brush like this:
https://www.thevisorshop.com/acatalog/Chain_Brush.jpg
Dry the chain with a rag.
Then get a paint brush and slop on some engine oil, any cheap 10w40 has worked well in my experience.
Then wipe off excess with a rag to avoid flingy mess.
Don't waste money on expensive cans of chain lubricant. And don't be tempted to put the bike in 1st gear to get the chain turning in order to do a quicker job - you're very likely to lose your fingers (it has happened and you can find pics if you search). Turn the back wheel by hand and clean one section of the chain at a time. |
