Hello guys/girls Smile Quick question about some chains for my aprilia RS.
Been looking online but can`t tell what the best chains are. I want a chain that will be able to go for along time with no problems (with the rite lubing) Heres some I have been looking at.
1)TKR Roller Chain

2)tvh competiton chain (not sure if thats rite heres a link, https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/APRILIA-RS-50-NEW-CHAIN-SPROCKET-KIT-2006-2008-/160567091568?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item25628b6170 )

But if theres any other good ones that arn`t over £50 pls do tell me.
Thanks Andrew

Haven't heard of those but you won't go wrong with DID although it might be more expensive, but what's it worth to avoid the risk of snapping a cheap chain?

That'd be fine but bearing in mind it isn't an O ring chain, you'd need to keep up with cleaning/lubing it more regularly. Making a chain last is all about proper maintenance - cleaning, lubricating and making sure it's correctly tensioned. Blowing my own trumpet here, but my current chain has done over 16'000 miles and I'm replacing the chain/sprockets only because the front sprocket is worn (chain still has lots of adjustment left) and it's best practice to replace it as all as a set. Thumbs Up

As a lube, well, chain lube is probably alright stuff to use on it Wink
You clean it with something like diesel and a scrubbing brush.

always use DID Z chain on my 350's, heavy duty, no o rings, just need to keep on top of the lubing and cost less than £50

other brands that are good are EK, RK, tsubaki, renthal

Paraffin in a squirty bottle to clean, with a stiff brush like this:

https://www.thevisorshop.com/acatalog/Chain_Brush.jpg

Dry the chain with a rag.

Then get a paint brush and slop on some engine oil, any cheap 10w40 has worked well in my experience.

Then wipe off excess with a rag to avoid flingy mess.

Don't waste money on expensive cans of chain lubricant. And don't be tempted to put the bike in 1st gear to get the chain turning in order to do a quicker job - you're very likely to lose your fingers (it has happened and you can find pics if you search). Turn the back wheel by hand and clean one section of the chain at a time. Thumbs Up

My chain maintenance procedure goes clean with a paint brush + paraffin, wipe excess off with kitchen towel then leave to dry for 30 mins while i give the rest of the bike a quick wipe, then toothbrush + engine oil poured into the lid of the oil container and the brush dunked then smeared on the chain. finish.

Edit, as for chains not one to cheap out just went for a DID chain + sprocket set from wemoto.

Has paraffin gone up again? The last 4L lot I got was about a fiver, then it went up to £7. £12 sounds outrageous.

Greenhouse heater by any chance?
£12 is expensive, but that's B&Q for you.. try FOCUS DIY instead, just bought a 4l bottle for £6.84 Wink
