Moving the bike

The drive to my garage is on a quite steep downwards slope. This means that when I want to get the bike out I can't push the bike out but have to go through a 20 point turn so that its pointing the right way before I ride off.
I'm looking for a turntable of some description so that I can spin it around inside the garage. This isn't helped by the fact that it doesn't have a centre stand.

Looks well made and the price is better than most. Unfortunately they don't make them any more.

All the other turntables seemed to be priced at £600+. Far too much.

Price is good but I'm not sure how well those wheels will fair up over time.

Durability is the only thing in question.


So. Has anyone tried any of these? Any other options? Please don't suggest turning it on the sidestand, its not going to happen.

I'd go for making it yourself. I mean how hard can it be? Turntable made with bearings, use an old steel rung ladder and put sheeting over it and bodge the 2 together. Possibly make a stand rest for the bike or put the stand on a block of wood so you can leave the bike on the turn table over night.

Couldn't you try a local workshop?

I did one a few weeks ago, just folded a 3mm channel, with a 15mm double return so it was more than strong enough, then welded some plates with gussets and castors on. He was over the moon with it, and said it worked perfectly.

That was abou an hour and a ½'s work.

I'd also say roll it in backwards. Failing that, you could pick up the wheels and swing the bike round on its side-stand as a temporary solution, if you have the space to do that.

Use the side stand to turn the bike.
Stand on the side of the side stand, put the stand down a, hold both bars. turn the front wheel away from you, keep your hip close to the bike and pull on the bars untill the bike lifts front and back, then just turn the bike with it resting on your thigh/hip.

I turn a fully laden Varadero like that so any other bike should be dead easy to do.

one of them web straps with the tightening device on it that they use to hold heavy duty stuff to lorrys.

Hang it from ceiling, attach one end to headstock and the other to rear of bike, tighten strap till bike is off ground, spin it round, ride out garage forwards.

I've turned bikes on the side stand before. I'm now old with a knackered ankle, knees, and wrists. I don't fancy being half way through a turn when one decides to give up the ghost.

I think I'm going for the DIY option. Looks more fun.

I don't have to have mine facing forwards but I have slight ocd I know my bike is probably a fair bit lighter and you've made the turntable now but I put my stand up, lean the bike a fair way over so it is right on the edge of the tyre and do a hip spin.

That's when you spin it 180 on the spot so no need for a turntable at all! Just grab the front brake and use the throttle to spin up the rear. Use your hip to push it. Half way through yank the front end across the do the other half of the turn.
