Hey all

Just started commuting into London, around 40-50 miles a day.

I'm currently using my 2 piece berik leathers and a cheap back pack.

I'm after a 2 piece protective clothing that's waterproof, lightweight, breathable, not too clunky.....am I asking too much?

Also after a decent backpack to use, normal size will do, don't carry alot but just needs to be waterproof really and easy on the back if possible?

Any ideas?

Cheers Karma

My advice, don't go cheap. Back when I started I bought Frank Thomas stuff at the lower end. A year later I bought a 2 piece Gore-Tex Dianese suit, not cheap but I figure I use it nearly every day and have done for a few years now. The quality was worth every penny.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll take your advice Coxy and get something like Dianese as my Berik leathers are 4 years old now with every weather use and they've lasted no problems.

If you've already got a pair of decent good fitting leathers, why not just get a rain suit to go over the top of them? I have one set that fits into a bum bag and another that fits in into a small pouch I put at the bottom of my rucksack. Great bits of kit.

Also George White's were doing some good deals on luggage recently. Nearest one to you would be Shoreditch.

If you're hell bent on new gear: www.getgeared.co.uk

I always go there at least for a browse around to see what's available.

For waterproofing, they've got some MIRACLE working foam. Daytona waterproofing something or other it's called. It's about a tenner or so for a 400ml can. Expensive but well worth it.

It turned my leathers and textiles from sponges into nice and waterproof. They used to leave me soaking wet within ten mins of light rain to ones that survived the M6 for an hour in heavy rain at about 70-75 without leakage. Even gear that's blatantly not waterproof is pretty decent after treatment: Jacket, boots, gloves, trousers, probably even your neck warmer Wink.

Hope this helps

Ooop missed these replies.

Clanger, could say that about 80% of threads on here. I was asking for opinions. I could google waterproof jacket and it would bring up alot but I wouldn't know which are good unless I had a few opinions on them.....

Thanks Rowey could be the an option, wouldn't mind a set of them as they are compact. I'll try there cheers.

Thanks Willson I'll take a look at the foam as a possibility just incase I get caught in the rain without the right gear on!

Update on the foam:

Tried waterproofing my new RST Razor leathers with it, it works fine on the leather but on the breathable bits and where the vent holes are it leaves much to be desired. (Hardly surprising I know).

I still stayed a hell of a lot drier than I would have had I not used it though.

Take a trip to GeorgeWhite Superbikes in Shoreditch, they've got a bargain basement with a ton of leathers, textiles, boots, lids etc. at knock down prices.

No it doesn't, don't think there are trousers with it. The make of the jacket is called 'roleff' safetec.

It has this weird velcro attachment on a lead that comes from inside the lower back up into the back. Confused

I haven't explained that very well have I... I will try get a picture Razz I don't know what it is!

Thumbs Up

Im ordering that ebay jacket tomorrow, as far as i can tell it has all the armour needed, so what if its an unheard of brand, a lot of the time with most things you pay for the brand name not the quality.

Before buying something like that personally I would rather have a look at the quality of it in a shop first. I'd rather not be sliding down the road and having seams burst - but hey, you're just paying for a brand name after all Thumbs Up

They might be unheard of, but they are still an established brand, and that jacket is half price.

Here's their website.

I think they distribute more in other countries perhaps,

https://www.roleff.de/EN/EN/programm06.htm

I was fucking well impressed.

Thumbs Up

I just don't bother with wet kit in summer, it's warm enough that you won't freeze to death if wet. Personally I just wear a leather jacket and Kevlar jeans, nice and cool. If I was bothered by the rain I would keep one of those rain suits in a backpack.

I love my Boblbee pack it is very well made and acts as a back protector, I wouldn't be without it however they are VERY expensive.

Only bought one set of gear so far, but I've found my supposedly waterproof Frank Thomas trousers are really good at keeping me dry, except for the bit you're sitting on! Arriving anywhere with a wet ass and having to change trousers & underwear is not my idea of fun Wink

Thanks Drake, I'm looking at getting the Kriega 25 having gone into a shop and had a look.

Same with most bike gear, I like to look rather than buy online, Hein Gerike mainly had own brand stuff.

For now I have been wearing my leathers then wearing a set of waterproofs I bought the other day if I think it's going to rain.

AndyB1989 where did you get your kit from?? May be something worth saving for as I'll be using all year round. I've found it's not just brand name but the quality that you get too can last you years. My Berik leathers and 4 years old now and no problems at all, well worth the money IMO.

i got mine from my local bike shop bikestop in stevenage really helpfull guys they ahve a LITTLE bit of movement on the sticker prices and then i managed to wangle a 10% discount overall which i put down to playing rugby with the guy who was serving me for years Razz

the jacket is the best bit really as its quite understated as a bike jacket and the armour is so easy to remove i have worn it several times as just a coat ..

ill find a link to the jacket for you on the bikestop site ..

i think mine was "last seasons" as its no longer on their site but its very similar to this ..

https://www.bikestop.co.uk/clothing/dainese-500-gt-d-dry-jacket.html

with the colour option being black/ black ..

and the trousers for £169 or £179 are probably the d-dry rather then the goretex and as such are slightly less breathable but just as waterproof

these are the ones i got
https://www.bikestop.co.uk/dainese-bruce-gore-tex-trousers.html

and these are the d-dry ones

https://www.bikestop.co.uk/dainese-tomsk-d-dry-trousers.html

oh .. heres my jacket somewhere else for £219

Shocked My partner wouldn't let me back home if I spent that much on a jacket

I recently got myself a pair of these

https://www.chasesuperbikecentre.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=145

Not from that shop mind, I got it through my training place. These are waterproof and very comfortable and nice fit too.
