not a good idea to disconnect the battery when the engine is running.Due to the recent cold and dwindling daylight its at this time of year that knackerd batteries die.Try another battery first and if you want to check the voltage always check it across the battery terminals,with and without the engine running.

it may be the battery is too knacked to hold a charge.Try another one to see,This time of year small bike electrics suffer severely if they have a knacked battery.

depends on where you testing for voltage,there's loads of ways to do it wrong.The multimeter can read O volt if they are connected to the generator coils as the power is Alertnating Current.Many systems need the battery in in order to work ,whether its knacked or not.

Hi, all the messages so far have coverered the battery testing but on a slight tangent I use an Optimate 4 charger and not only would it tell if the battery is knackerered it would also try to fix it if the battery is sulphated, just a thought  |

the stator wires will have two wires to the pick up/ign trigger and should have three to the charging/lighting circuit.by finding the colour codes (compare with other similar engines/models) you can test the resistance across the coils and pick up/ign trigger to see if they are knacked or not.Sometimes the insulation gets dry and brittle .before taking the stator cover off try checking the connector block contacts are clean and a tight fit.If you get a spark you can ignore the pick up/ign trigger coil. ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam,super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess,range rover,corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs. top right black box with 2 crosshead screws is your pulse trigger,the oil is no problem as the engine oil bathes the rotor,
Guess that theres a yellow and a pink wire and a green coming from your coils.black/red and green/white may be your pulse/trigger coil
it looks ok but you need to get a wiring diagram and test the resistance with the multimeter.Dont pull the wires out,you can test across the connector block.also check that theres a good earth wire to the starter and frame

been rooting for a wiring diagram but no luck.you could try looking at alternator parts for eastern non jap bikes and see if you can find a coil set the same,making a note that one central coil is different,then,uses that as a guide to backtrack to 'resistance measurements.
many of these chinese bikes use the the same type coils.Its quite rare that charging coils break so your problem might be elsewhere,e.g. a loose wire or commectors that have been put back wrong.Sometimes when someones taken out the wiring loom to say,replace a headlamp shell they can wire up the greens wrong,mixing up the indicator earth and the lighting /switchgear earth.i'll keep looking for you. ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam,super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess,range rover,corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs. dont waste your money before checking your wiring out with the multimeter,although its a pain its well good for your skills.with a spec sheet it will be so much easier than replacing the electrical componenets.
