 |

I hate the idea of starting a combustion engine that is -15 degrees C with stone hard oil etc.
I would like to build in a micro water pump. I imagine a 12v pump (or one for the wall plug would also be ok) that i can insert in the middle of a hose, and it will pump the water through the system, while i heat up the radiator.
Maybe i could some 12V Peltier elements to heat up the radiator?
Maybe a pump like this: https://www.campingshop.dk/produkt/vandpumpe-12v-comet-elegant-8-ltr.aspx |

Given that we are largely UK based, our info may not be as specific as could be - what do other bikers in Denmark with no garages do? ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Blow torch under the sump to heat the oil up before starting, Widely used in Russia etc during the winter mostly on large diesal trucks.
just keep it away from rubber seals/cables etc. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |

Well the odd one or two I have ever met, and they were 'odd', reckoned that come winter, you put the bike away, got the coals stoked up in the sauna and found a big titted blond to share it....
If they had the energy over, after, or the BTB had a headache, they'd go build another hard-tale, or restore a Nimbus! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

shove an electric fan heater under the sump connected to a time switch and a cicuit breaker/rcd,if the bike is under cover.
if you commute through the winter then a sump heater might pay for itself in time ,petrol and wear and tear on a larger cc bike. ____________________ nearly a normal tax paying tosser.......with ferrileness suzi100,cg125,cb125scb100n,cb175,cd100,cj250t,kh250,c15,125 bantam, super 6,rickman gs750,xt500,250rs,dt175,lifan125,dolomite1850,metro,Morris220ld,morrisfg,leyland princess, range rover, corsa,vw camper .now struggling with legs. +1 to it makes more sense to heat the oil rather than the coolant as well. |
Yup; some places they do, more than others. They even used (when I was a kid there... long time ago!) to have parking meters with electric hook up!
More in the provincial towns and suburbs though; in the city they had heated underground car-parks.
Canadian Tyre... rather like Kwik-Fit meets Halfords, meets Army-Navy, meets Argos...... you could buy tyres, rifle rounds, shotguns! (curiouse attitudes they had out there; you could walk into a store and buy .22 amunition, more easily than a bottle of wine!) Christmas tree lights; garden furnature, push-bikes, fishing equipment, boats, canooes, ski's, all manner of outdoor wear, and a few motoring accessories...... used to be my Dads 'one stop' solution to any new outdoor interest that took his fancy, and precursor to yet another holiday desaster... sorry, 'adventure'....
He had the wonderful idea of trying white water rafting one summer...... bought a canoo..... we got grounded on a rock in the middle of the Bow River..... he's not exactly 'slim'...... He got out to see what the problem was, boat shot off like a rocket, and I was rather worried I'd end up over Niagra! Typical, he had the ruddy padle! Always leaving me up the creek without one of them!
Cross-Country Skiing was another brilliant idea he had. Ended up setting fire to a holiday cabin in White-Fish..... he got 'cold'!
Water Skiing in Kawlona was less fraught; after hiring three boats to find one powerful enough to tug him along...... and after too many people asking for a ride on the 'inflatable whale'... we used him as 'ballast'!
Sorry; I digress into childhood reminiscences! Sorry! My old man, might NOT have given me much, but did fill my childhood with memorable anecdotes! A thirty stone, University Proffessor; sort of cross between Quentin Crisp and Stan Laurel... with proffesor Remus hair, there was always SOME fine mess for him to be getting me into! Especially if it gained him Petro-Can points and could be claimed off his frequent flier miles!
Anyway, remember seeing 'outdoor parking' kits.... looked like a small emersion heater element, screwed in the sump in place of the sump-plug... came with numerouse adaptors for different cars, and in a couple of different sizes for little european 'compacts' up to big block Yank 'trucks'..... a few lengths of wire and caravan connectors, and a metal spike with a socket on for you to cement into your drive, to plug it in.
Only been back once, and that over ten years ago, since my old man moved to Vancouver, where despite it snowing when I visited, I was told it was the first time they had snow in Victoria for thirty years, I am assured its a lot more 'temperate' and no sign of electric hook-up for parked cars!
The old man 'celebrated' by treating himself to a convertible SAAB..... I declined riding it in..... He'd nearly caused a multiple pile up on the M40, playing with the electric Sun-Roof of my Grans Hyundi Coupe, taking him (greatfully!) to the air-port.... fiddling with buttons for the sake of it, opened it, causing a draft, (that sucked my hair into the hole!) and then 'CLOSING' it again.....
I was, doing about 70mph in the outside lane of the motorway, in busy traffic, in my Gan's, almost brand new pride and joy.... my nose pressed against the winscreen, the rear view mirror wedged in my jaw, yelling at him to STOP...... completely obliviouse of my rather curiouse driving possition, let alone my obviouse discomfort, har tangled in sun-roof mechanism..... he was jibbering at me "Why?! Its Cold!"
Fat man.... hates cold..... emigrates to Canada.... yup... THAT is my Dad.... more degrees than a thermomenter, but couldn't put stick two lego-bricks together if his life depended on it, and you gave him a full colour diagram, and instructional video! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Thank you guys, but i think that the peltier elements will win the fight. They let the oil pan become the heater.
The idea was to make bearings etc. get warm before start. They wont get worm just by heating up the oil
