Just wondering because when I'm hitting the heady speeds of 40 mph on my moped (I know, I'm just a speed crazy animal on the road...no mobility scooters are safe when I'm about) the bike sort of lurches slightly on what is obviously a rotation of something.

Could this be my chain about to go? I have an intermittent slight sticky pad on my front disk too, so that's confusing the issue for me.

EDIT: Oh, and I noticed that sometimes my chain seems slacker/tighter by how close it gets to chain runners on the bike...is this what happens? They stretch in places?

Mine does the same. Its a tight spot on the chain more than likely. I have just adjusted mine, and although adjusted correctly, it does seem to make this slight pull feeling. Also the chain makes noise, so perhaps a tight link also.

I'm planning to change mine this weekend mind, so if all noises and symptoms go, then I'll let you know it was the chain. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

First of all check your chain for tight-spots; Take it off the bike, clean it, and waggle each link in turn, see if any are 'stiff'.

Then inspect your sprockets; front and rear, and look to see you still have 'lands' or flat bits on top of each tooth... if not they are shagged.

Oil the chain and put it back on; or put it back on then oil it, whichever you find easiest... with the chain on the rear sprocket try moving ONE link forwards & backwards between the teeth to check for play.

THEN tension the chain on the sprockets, and pay particular attension to getting the sprockets aligned.

If you are planning to keep the machine, it wouldn't hurt to get a new chain and sprocket set - so you can make comparisons and change them if necessary.

As for how it feels - quite painful if the chain snaps when you are doing 40 and it takes the skin off your ankle!

Cheers bud, let me know what happens. Btw, when you say your chain makes 'noise' what do you mean? Mine occasionally make a noise, like its taking up slack, but it doesn't do it all the time.

Oh, and thanks mike and every one else, I'm deciding weather to keep this bike until summer, if I do I'll take the chain off and start testing/cleaning it.

Cheers Thumbs Up

If it's an o-ring/x-ring (rubber seal) chain and you have stiff links it most likely means the lubricant has escaped and the pin/bush is probably damaged.
It won't last long and could snap without warning under load.

New Chain and Sprockets.
