once the engine has been to the engineers to drill out the mounting bolt i will be stripping and rebuilding the lump.

after 30k miles and 26 ish years of probable abuse it really could do with a new paint job too.

what would be a good paint to do it with?
can you get proper engine paint?

Any make of engine enamel or barbeque paint ( it can take higher temperatures )
Your local Halfords will sell it as well as most other car places.

we used pj1 on our engines but because of warning label they were taken off the shelves...as they were not EU compliant labeling

I sprayed an exhaust with halfords very high temp paint. I let it dry properly for a few days, warmed the bike up a little more each time for a bit then went for a ride. After 20 miles my exhaust was unpainted again Laughing
That stuff might be a little better but right where the header is gets bloody hot.

Yeh the standard enamel ( used matt black - 400c ) is no use on the head of the pipes, I used it on a set that has inner pipes and same thing. The barbeque stuff worked better, but that first 4-6 inch still flaked off ( Its an all in one system so no chance of curing it in the oven first ).
