 |
|
Excuse my lack of knowledge on this first of all
Ive been watching a few bike vids on counter steering, how to do it and how it works etc, but I was just wondering would it apply/work on a 50cc moped that does around 55, This is with regards to the shape (scooter) so would it work and is it worth while doing? Please no lectures on get a big bike and license as I will do ASAP!
Thanks, H ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.

Yes it does, you already do it subconciously but to try it conciously; pick a wide quiet road and see what happens when you turn the bars one way or the other - it will tip in and start to turn, probably in the opposite way to what you are thinking. It is good to get it ingrained in your head in case you need to turn quick in an emergency.
During SLOW turning the way you pull the bar is the way you turn, once you are going a bit faster and the bike needs to lean to make it round a bend then you need to countersteer.
All two wheeled vehicles, even bicycles do it .
I highly recommend buying/downloading "keith code, a twist of the wrist 2". |

The speed at which counter-steering becomes effective, depends on the weight of the bike and the diameter of the tyres, but usually starts to happen between 10 and 15mph.
You need to master counter-steering to successfully complete the swerve exercise on the Mod1 test, but even if you consciously try to body-steer, the bike will tend to counter-steer itself - you probably just weren't aware of it!
It's much better to consciously counter-steer and let your body follow the bike.
Just a thought - if your machine does 55mph, it's not technically a 'Moped' is it? ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

Counter steering!
FFS this subject really winds me up!
Never, in the history of biking, has so much bollox been written on one subject, (I blame the interweb!)
If you have to think about "counter steering" while your riding, two wheeled vehicles are NOT for you.
Sell your bikes & push irons now and buy something with more farkin' wheels, it'll save the emergency services having to scrape your remains of a lamp post. ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Well not really, i think a lot of people do it without realizing what it even is, but after doing a bit of research about counter steering can do it more effectively.
For example i tend to lean a lot around bends and what not, but if i consciously for example push the left handlebar on a left hand bend, i will turn a lot more tight and without anywhere near as much body lean. ____________________ To shreds you say? Tss tss tss |
