Right, how long will a set of discs last?
A couple of times now I have got it into my head that I need a new set of brake discs on the front of my bike, I even start pricing them up, but when I go to check them they are still well within spec.
My Bike has 53,??? miles on it, it is on the original discs. The min disc thickness is 4.5mm and mine are 5.2/5.3.
Now the TDM has the same brakes and discs as the R1. The brakes are VERY good, I have ALWAYS used Sintered pads.
The bike has had a hard life, 80% of the miles are through London at rush hour, my ridding is aggressive and I am very heavy on the brakes. I occasionally Clean them out and re lube the pistons but not often, maybe once between pad changes and when the pads are changed.
I just can't believe they have lasted so long, considering how often I hear people about having to change discs. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

WANTED:- Fujinon (Fuji) M42 (Screw on) lenses, let me know if you have anything. |

I replaced mine at roughly 60,000 miles but they were about 2mm thick at that point!

It depends.
Bishbash was still on the original brake pads on his R1 after 30k miles, including a load of trackdays (around 8 or so?)
Depends really but you might see 100k from them ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

Most people seem to warp them through shite brake maintenance well before the discs get worn thin enough to need replacing.
If they are still in spec, aren't cracked/damaged/warped/rattling around on the rivets etc etc then I'd continue to use them. Spend your cash on something else for now . |

My old man has a 1200S Bandit with 40 something thousand on it, owned from a few months old.
I can not even feel a ridge or lip between the working and non working surface of the discs. |
