get yourself a good set of Halfords Professional tools, and a proper torque wrench
It will go mate, can you slip a long tube over your spanner/ratchet to give you more leverage? ____________________ Turbo R1

If it hurts your hand when you try and apply pressure to the socket wrench or spanner, rap an old t-shirt or rag around it to make it a bit easier for yourself. |

It shouldn't be that corroded, a steel nut on a steel axle. Unless they use titanium or goat cheese.
Probably can't hurt to get some penetrating fluid or oil in there, then give the nut a whack with a hammer, to try and break up any corrosion. Get a torch on the nut, try and get it off while it's still hot.
But really, just put a longer lever on it. Longer. Lonnnnger. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Get down the scrapyard. Get a bit of exhaust, scaffold bar or tube approximately 75cm long.
NEVER stamp on a ratchet, use a bar on a ratchet or anything other than use with your hands. you'll just break the mechanism.
spanner on one end of the spindle, spanner on the other. jam one spanner up against the shock or whatever, scaffold bar over the other spanner and pull on the end of it.
When you reassemble it, put a bit of grease on the thread to make sure grit and shit dont get in the thread next time. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.

Might be worth getting someone to sit on the bike while you crack it off, last thing you want to do is put so much force on it (or have a spaz attack while you're doing it) and end up dumping the bike on the floor.
Remember to mind your head/face/hands while doing it. If you've ever slipped with a spanner/ratchet and smacked your hand on something/ smacked yourself in the head then you'll know what I mean.
One thing I do (although I haven't done it on a bike) is to put a trolley/bottle jack under the bar/spanner handle and then start pumping. Obviously this works well on cars as it has the weight to keep it still, but if you get someone to sit in the bike while you do it, it should work the same.
The pressure exerted on the nut is going to be pretty big, and it should come off no trouble. But if you start lifting your mate/bike up with the jack, it's time to set fire to your bike and get a new one.
