Hi, got all my gear and now need a lock Smile

I can't pay too much, preferably £20 but 30 at a push, but In the future this would definitely get upgraded Smile

Iv been looking on amazon because I have a voucher I can use,

What do you guys suggest?
Quite a few ones that are 2.5KG but about 1 metre

What you think?

At that sort of money the chain will be a deterrent to the casual thief rather than a game stopper for the professionals (TBH all chains are to an extent - better ones are just harder to hand crop, can still be cut other ways).

In which case, you just want to get the one with the thickest links you can find. 12mm+ thick links look substantial, below 10mm or so looks comically thin to be securing a motorcycle with.

However, if I only had £30 to spend on a chain and lock I'd buy some grade 80/100 load chain on gayBay. It is impossible to get a tougher motorcycle chain for the same price.

This stuff is £20 a metre, has 16mm toughened links and will be an utter ball ache/impossible to crop by hand:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16mm-Tested-Chain-Grade-80-BS-EN818-WLL-8000kgs-/310291128595?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item483ecae113#ht_643wt_908

SLightly thinner (13mm) and cheaper (£17/m):
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/13mm-Tested-Chain-Grade-80-BS-EN818-WLL-5300kgs-/250763590827?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item3a62acbcab#ht_643wt_908

If you can find it second hand then it will be peanuts/free as it is essentially scrap metal to industry after a period of use.

To be fair the chain is only as good as the lock holding it together, so you will need to spend a lot of money for a good quality lock...
I think an alarmed disk lock would be a better investment, and a cheap thinner chain just as a visual deterrant

What front and rear brakes are drums? Ok, you can get alarmed padlocks, thats what i use on mine. Sirens if it gets moved

Yep.
And yeah you've got the gear...but have you got a bike yet? Rolling Eyes

Just make one decision on your own, just once, you might like it, who knows Razz

Personally I used a £40 "mammoth" chain alike the one you linked actually, it's heavy and the lock seems good quality but the chain isn't that amazing, you can see the weld 'creases' on the links but I think it'd stop most nubs, but I think my kryptonite bicycle lock is better

and a kryptonite bicycle D-lock
The d-lock is great because its hardcore and easy to carry around, I just attach it to my top box rack thing

Iv made 4 solo decisions now Razz

Jacket I got
Gloves
Helmet
Where to do CBT Wink

It's a toss up between Oxford HD or a bright green mammoth one (it's £50)

As everyone here has said it's possible to get some good quality chain within your budget, but probably not with a decent lock as well.

Personally I have an alarm, a cheap chain and padlock, and a disc-lock, and just accept that if a professional thief should decide they're desperate for my bike - it will be going along with them. The security should hopefully enough to deter scrotes and casuals, which is all any security can really do, although some may do it more effectively.

I bought a disk lock (bright yellow with bright yellow minder) for £20 and a chain and lock for about £40 from J&S to make it "look" secure. It's got a cheap-ish alarm on the bike too which makes a noise to try and deter the robbin' AR$£ bandits. We also found out yesterday my mate's car exhaust can set the alarm off so it's quite sensitive!

It looks better than it is I think
Heavy and massive and a cunt to carry around too, I have to carry a backpack with it in when I plan to use it, my mate wears his lock around his shoulder lol, wouldnt fancy coming off a bike with a chain wrapped round me Thumbs Down

Better than nowt, but useless without something to anchor it too, they cna just pick it up!

A good tip I heard on hear somewhere is to chain up the front wheel if you only have the one chain, it's apparently easier to lift the bike from the back and roll it on the front wheel than the other way around

Disc locks highly recommended though, not that I have one

you may as well get this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTORCYCLE-MOTORBIKE-BIKE-SECURITY-CHAIN-DISC-LOCK-1M-/270496036571?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3efad1f6db

Any chain is a visual deterrant, and that one has sold loads on ebay
