Hi,

My bandit chain seems to have gone from being OK to worn out in two days. I parked it up friday, adjusted the chain and lubed it as i do every week (lube not adjust!) come to use the bike monday and it seems a bit vibey, when slowing down it chugs!. Turning the wheel on the centre stand there seems to be a really tight area of the chain. I was aware I had a couple of tight links but its never made this horrible noise before!

Is it worth slackening off the chain, winding the adjusters all the way in and starting again before buying a new chain? Could I really have got the adjustment that off centre to cause this? Ive never had any problems adjusting a chain before!

Thanks

Harry.

Redo your adjustment and checks and go from there.

Sounds like it's siezed up in during the 2 days stood... tight links always seeem to get worse for me, no matter what I do, so they've probably just reached that "too much" point.

I'd say save time and possibly further wear and tear and just get a new chain on there.

Its very annoying as i clean and lube the chain every week (ish) i cant understand why its gone from fine to bust it 2 days! I will first try and check the adjustments again but as i say it has a spot in its rotation that is very very tight (few cm play at the most ) and rotating past this i have a few inches! Obviously it jumps around like a good 'un when riding.

They do go downhill very fast towards the end, I imagine once one or two link pivots have started to fail internally, it puts far more stress on the adjacent ones.

Glad it wasn't just me!

I lube and adjust my chain weekly, always looking after it and now I have a tight spot as normal but the rest is loose.

Guess it's new chain time!

I had a gold X ring chain on there, thought it was a good one, is there any particular ones to get or do they all do this eventually?

Lifes a bitch, at the most I lube my chain once a month, which is a little over 1000 miles.

No stiff links, not stretching at all, very rarely needs adjusting. Done nearly 10,000 miles with it so far.

Wish you were me? Razz

If it sounds like a 50's bus. Just by a new chain they all go eventualy

if you buy a new chain don't over tighten the soft link...

can over tighten them and create can be a tight spot making it not so bendy... and making you need a new chain/link.

Make sure that when you adjust chain, you do this at the tightest point. Else if you choose the slacker area and adjust, then the tightest part will be so tight and could well make noises you mention
just a though
