Hi

Anyone know how to change the fuel tank on a YBR? I've got as far as the side panels and seat off, and undone the main bolt holding the fuel tank in, but then it's like stuck with weird foam stuff at the other side? what is this?

And what is the best way to disconnect the pipes?
there is like a circle thing with lots of very small and pretty rusty allen key looking bolts around it looking like they are holding the whole thing to the tank, but i'm not really sure

I've actually looked in the manual online and there's barely anything about changing the fuel tank, theres hardly a mention of it at all

And I can't find any other tuts on it
It's the FI model 2009

Thanks Thumbs Up

Undo bolts holding tank to frame.

Wiggle backwards.

Do not unbolt the circle bit at the bottom. Fuel will come out, its the pump.

Yeah I really didn't feel good about those, had a feeling they shouldn't be fucked with

I tried that Paddy but it wouldn't budge and I didn't want to yank it, it feels like some sort of filler foam is holding it in, I cant take a picture really as its in an awkward place and don't have a flash camera

If it is just some sort of anti-shock foam so the tank and bounce or something, what's it called so I can get some?

Or has it been bodged on by the mechanics Thinking

I'll have another go this weekend. Actually in the week some time, think i'm in london.

Will try to take pics.

Any clues or help appreciated! There's no foam things on the new tank just like, metal bits

https://s17.postimage.org/imxycfi67/35508.jpg
is a picture of a tank, the bit circled is where its got foam type stuff

The main hole with the little holes around it are the little allen key things, surely i'll need to take these out to change the pumps over to the new tank??

Best way to ciphon the fuel out? Laughing

How about clocks, they hard to wire up lol? Wink

The bits you have circled are normal on tanks.
They are 2 C shaped lugs.
These should fit into 2 large rubber washer type things near the headstock. They hold the tank in place and provide the cushioning. They are usually just slid on peg like lugs. So they fall off when tank removed and can be lost.

I am thinking maybe lost in the past and tank bodged on. Tanks like this should normally come off by releasing the rear fixing, lifting at the back and pulling backwards, maybe with a little side to side wriggling of the tank as you pull back.

Incredibly helpful, thank you, pictures make everything better.
I'm fairly certain it didn't feel like rubber, I could actually feel like a crack in the foam from it moving around (probably from me trying to get it out)

Are these buyable, if so what would they be called? (The rubber bits)

Bodge DIY crafty solution also appreciated

Many thanks Thumbs Up
Also, bodge ass mechanic then?! Twisted Evil
Maybe they weren't there originally, I guess, but fuck, why not put them in D:

Looked on eBay.
Maybe these are what you want?

Searched for motorcycle rubber ybr

I'd pull the tank off first just to see if they are.

As they say in all the best manuals reassemble is the reverse of disassembly.

Do whatever you had to do for the reason for taking the tank off. I'd check and tidy up under the tank and replace tank mounting rubbers if that is the issue. If can't get via eBay or breakers then as last resort Yam dealer will be able to order.

Then just put back on making sure you don't trap any hoses or cables running under the tank. As said should just slide onto mounting rubbers. May take a little wriggling and getting the angle right. You should feel when it's ok. Then just bolt back down. Job done.

HTH Thumbs Up

I never understand why people use ebay as the first source for parts.

Genuine brand new ones for about 30% of the price of the ones you listed, they be sightly cheaper if you walk into a main dealer.

In my defence I did say I just looked. Had it open as a tab in my browser for other stuff so was a quick search rather than go through google results (I don't have a need to look for Yamaha parts).

Good link, will be using that if only for the fiche images.

You could have walked into any Yamaha dealers and got them for about 60p each.

those dampers are always falling off my bike. as i have the tank off for a respray and dent removal its on and off alot, so i just got some glue from my hot glue gun, dabbed a bit into the damper hole and stuck em onto the lug poles.

its crappy enough glue that when/if the dampers need changing the glue will come off with a little bit of force releasing the damper

Oh well, I'll bare it in mind in future Thumbs Up

So far i've got my clocks on, kinda dodgily, the bracket seems shit and like it'd wobble around and break, and i've got no decent bolts so the ones that are in it are barely grabbing the thread

Got late last night and everything was shut, even BnQ Thumbs Down
Got my speedo going and fuel gauge and back lights, but for some reason the simple connectors wouldn't work properly, I didn't crimp them but put them in just to debug and make sure it all works, there seems to be more connectors from the clocks than there are in the loom to take them?

I'll take pics later if I get stuck, it was getting dark so couldn't really sort it

Also electric start magically died whilst riding, was fine when I pulled off Rolling Eyes

Huzzah I did it all!

New tank on and clocks on, all working and fine, it was awkward and a pain and took most the night but it was worth it Laughing

Didn't expect to pull a big thing with wires and a float out my tank, that was weird

Got no neutral light indicator, seems to have ran out of wires, couldn't see any more to plug in anyway, and everyhting seemed attached well enough

electric start was just loose, seems okayish now, but sometimes it doesnt work, it's pretty touchy, thankful for my bonus kickstart Thumbs Up

Now I have a black tank and blue mudguard and sidepanels
Laughing
