R6 exhaust - does it need a remap?

My exhaust has akropovic exhaust on it, which is e marked. It makes some lovely back firing noise when coming off the throttle.
The bike get hot quite a lot too though.
Does the bike need remapping? It's a 53 r6.

I didn't think it would but saw something on another forum that mention these symptons are a result of bad air and fuel flow. Unbalanced.

The popping, etc. Will most likely be from the Pair Valve (or whatever Yamaha call their version), if you block this you will stop the popping.

AFAIK the 2003 r6 has FI? If it does, it should be able to cope with just a slip on, if you start modifying the air box/high flow filter as well you will probably need a chip/remap.

If you have a look at the spark plugs and if the centre core is white-ish then it is running slightly too lean.I am pretty sure that the bike is carbied so you could get away with richening out the air mixture screws by half a turn ie.if standard is two turns out,make it two and a half on all four carbs.

Just had a look on the interwebs and as far as I can see they introduced FI in 2003. Your friends must a be a late reg.

Yeh my r6 is fuel injected... So is there anything that needs doing or do I just leave it as it is?

Leave it as is. It will be fine.

If you want to get more power and a better power delivery then get it remapped, if not it won't melt the engine as is.
