That's comforting to know they are eyes wide open.

Might even catch a drink driver heading home before they have had a chance to wreck someone's life

They're not the bad guys you know

I hope you invited him to ride your bike and TRY to get anywhere near 65, let alone over a ton haha

Would be impossible to keep up with all the unmarked vehicles!

I saw a Silver BMW motorbike with panniers on the motorway a few months ago. Couldn't tell you the model because I don't know any of the BMW models.

Anyway, the bike was lane splitting between lanes 2 & 3 (with cars in them) at what I would guess to be 80mph. I clocked him to be a regular bike (was passenger in a car).

A few minutes up the road I see him pulled over in the hard shoulder with blue lights on writing this car a ticket!

i asked him if he knew anything about bikes, he said no..... i then refused to speak to him till his sargent came down who very swiftly let me on my way,

on a side note before i "tuned" the engine i could get 65 on a flat (just)

Have you considered that he might have been pre-warned about said vehicle further ahead, and wanted to catch up without shocking him with the blues and twos?

Well if you ever hear the RoSPA / BikeSafe / etc. coppers go on about filtering, this is well beyond what they'd consider making progress safely. They wouldn't do it on a marked bike I don't think.

Do you filter at 80 on your SH300? Mine just about tops out at 86mph per GPS, my old one (now belongs to my GF) hit the rev limiter at 80mph, but I have slightly different weights in the variator. Acceleration is pretty scarce to come by at that speed, so I would not typically filter on it at 80 unless I was being tailgated or something.

Well on a level motorway it will get up to about 85-86 on the clock, and I have filtered at that but very rarely and only under certain circumstances. I happily filter at 50-60, maybe 70 at times too.

As for the Z... Twisted Evil

Get outta jail clause: this is of course all pure make believe as I wouldn't dream of going over any posted speed limit.

The car that was pulled had passed me earlier too obviously. One occupant, in smart attire, mid 20s-30s from a guess. No crazy driving.

I really doubt it was a case of being pre-warned so much as it was speeding.

Oh, there's no problem with it. It's just not something I would have expected a copper to do whilst on duty, especially at above the speed limit. I always do it as well whilst I'm on the motorway.

I'm sure you know that the police (as have all the emergency services) have an exemption in law to drive above the speed limit in the execution of their duty.

What you don't know is why that car was getting tugged. Mr Smart could have been a big time player in the drugs scene, and the ticket was an excuse to have a nosy at his vehicle!

A friend of mine (yes, a second-hand anecdote) worked at a main dealer.

She told me that the same unmarked vehicles came in from time-to-time with different plates. Apparently the vehicles have three registrations so they can be rotated. I'd love to think this was true but hate the thought of it too. Smile

Middle Finger No they`ve gone now, but if they are back there in a couple of months I post it up again Thumbs Up .

when I see them lurking about near where I live, I like to let the world know.
I`ve read BCF prior to going out before in the past.
If you know of an area that the piggies tend to frequent, maybe you could let the mighty BCF know, it just might possilbly save one member from getting a ticket
If it annoys you that I post this sort of information, why dont you just choose to ignore my posts Thumbs Up

Only when they have reason to do so and must be able to prove this reason when challenged about it.

Why are we going in to so many pointless details ffs?

My original point: unmarked bike riding above the limit in a way you wouldn't guess a police rider to ride, so you wouldn't guess it to be a police bike.

My original point in no way was criticising the rider or questioning what he was doing, was it. Merely that you wouldn't have expected that rider to be an unmarked rider.

I'm not really sure what's caused all the questioning to that statement.

I might have misread the tone your original post was meant to be taken in, but it came across to me as though you were questioning why he was pulling someone over. If I have, then I'm sorry.

That's the reason behind my reply.

Nope, simply adding a little story to how I knew it was a police bike Smile

You are right, Police have the option to have three sets of plates made for un-marked vehicles.

Just as well over here that they use the most stupid and memorable three letter combinations on the suffix of the registration

How could she tell they weren't different cars? The police don't exactly use a hugely varied selection of cars, it's usually BMWs, Volvos, Skoda Octavia's, Omega's and Insignias. The "police interceptors" in the Evo's and Scooby's are so far from subtle that I'd expect to notice those cars regardless of whether or not they're pig-wagons. My point being, it could easily be 3 different cars, of the same colour/model.
