Got an '05. It randomly cuts out. It was a lot worse around 6 weeks ago before I serviced it. Serviced it and it seemed to cure it until today.
Nothing is ever the same when it does it. Some times it will go when i'm thrashing it, others when i'm pootling. Sometimes when its cold sometimes when it's hot and any amount of fuel in the tank.
I think it's electrical, possibly fuel pump. When it starts to cut out it starts to kangaroo as if it's running out of fuel. No matter what I do with the throttle or clutch it will die. The only thing that helps iss when it starts to die turning the ignition on and off again.
Any ideas? ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6

could be something as simple as M.A.F. (mass air flow sensor) telling your computer to shut down, very common problem on vauxhalls (i know yours is seat).
sounds like you could have an air leak in the diesel system also typical of your description, check for leaks in the fuel lines etc
final thing i can think of off the top of my head would be the fuel pump as you suggested,
if you can i would find someone who could plug it in to there computer and read the fault codes the M.A.F. sensor is a couple of quid but if its not the fault you dont want to waste money, if its cutting out there will be fault codes on there ____________________ "WHAT DO YOU MEAN 100 MPH THATS IMPOSSIBLE Its chinese OFFICER."

I forgot to add I've got an OBD2 code reader. The only errors it comes up with are EGR fault and Turbo solenoid fault. That's because it won't clear the faults and when it was in the garage last week the plebs forgot to connect the vacuum hoses and the sensor to the box they connect upto.
I don't get an engine management light or anything come up when it happens. And I don' think that it's a problem air in the lines because it doesn't happen regular enough and has no problems starting. I've been along the fuel lines and there's no sign of any leaks.
The MAF sensor is a good possibility, a friend said he had a similar problem with his 1.9 golf and it turned out to be that. ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6

How much is VAG COM? An where can I buy it? I may just buy it myself it'd be handy to have I seem to have a habit of buying VAG cars.
Correct me if I'm wrong but a stuck/dicky EGR would just stick it in limp mode and come up with an error code?
When it dies it splutters as if it has run out of fuel then will conk completely. But if i flick the ignition off and on again it runs fine. Which makes me think it's electrical. ____________________ Current Bike- Suzuki DRZ400 SM K6

Sounds like its going into limp mode to prevent engine damage, I know it happened on my dads seat and it was down to the turbo and was rather expensive to fix, ill ask him for more details when I see him next but for what I can remember the symptoms are the same ____________________ Malaguti F12 Phantom-Dead, Suzuki AY50- Dead, NRG power DD LQ, CBR125.

I work at a VW/Skoda specialist so if you are local I'll happily take a look mate, I would say its one of the relays that power the ecu and fuel pump up, they are right under the drivers side of the dash and you have to dismantle the side of the dash to get to them, Injector looms usually give a missfire fault code and don't usually come and go on their own.
it has the right fuel in it yea, no bio or cooking oil or petrol

Have you cleaned the EGR valve and MAF sensor? I thought those were common problems on all these sorts of engines.
Sorry to thread highjack, but is there anything you'd be looking out for on the 1.9tdi pd 130 engine? Cars I'm looking at have 45k-60k on them.
I thought they were pretty solid until 100k+ plus as with any diesel where turbos and injectors and cltuches are possibilities? ____________________ CBT Passed: 30/08/2009, Theory Passed: 31/08/2010, Mod 1 Passed: 6/9/2010, Mod 2 Passed: 13/09/2010. Restriction ended 13/09/2012.

both egr and maf will not give those symptoms tho, the 1.9 tdi's are really good but the 2.0 twin cams are best avoided in my opinion, turbo's will go but only when abused really, dmf's are usually ok unless its been doing lots of towing or town work and the injectors were ok untill around 2007 when they changed to siemens and had issues but most of those were 2.0 cars. I wouldn't worry about buying one with 300 K on it to be honest ____________________ Hyosung cruise 125(passed test on, sold) Kawasaki el 252 (better than expected but sold on) Kawasaki GPZ500S first "big"bike.(sold) ZZR600 E5..Z750 2007,ER5, currently on a 2008 Enfield bullet electra x and loving it..

The cheap leads work, but the free 3rd party VAG-COM only works with Windows XP. ____________________ Current Bikes:Honda 929RR Fireblade, Honda CD200 Benly (Project), Stomp Z2 140
