To be honest, I havnt the patience for that sort of thing and its not on a commuter/ all year round type of bike so I would want it to look nice. ____________________ "The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had" |

The ACF-50 I applied a few hours ago has made my engine all lovely and shiny.
Getting it professionally cleaned at this time of year? ____________________ I'm autistic. That means I'm smarter than you. |

Nah. I'm afraid it would fall apart if I did. It's being held together by dirt right now ____________________ 09' Versys 650 | 07' FJR1300A |

powder coating needs to be baked on, spray the powder on then put it in an oven hung up. not sure if this bit is right but pretty sure the powder is attracted to the job through static.
polishing, wouldn't bother with an engine, castings are to rough on the crank cases and barrels, so would need sanding then alot of wet and dry sanding.
best bet is a good quality high temp paint. ____________________ was: derbi senda, aprilia sx125, nsr250 mc16, cagiva mito, cb600 hornet now: mk1 bandit, KR1S, landrover series 3 light weight 2.5 petrol, 5speed box |

You'll have to strip the engine if you want it blasted and painted, or you can get in there with either wire wool, or a drill with a wire brush and strip the coating manually in situ. Either way, painting it when fully assembled isn't ideal, and won't look particularly good, thanks to the variable accessibility of some bits, and the fact that the bolts are still present causing the paint to flake the first time you try to undo any of them. Future removal of gaskets may well have the same effect, as will removing any covers. You really do want the whole thing to be in pieces if you're intent on painting it. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |
