Evening all.

The dipped beam on my CG stopped working the other day, so I duly ordered new bulbs online (BA20D fitment, on good authority). Like a div, I didn't check what was actually in there and it turns out that the BA20D is not what my bike takes. Neutral

Can anyone shed some light on what this bulb is called? Old one on the right, naturally.

You have the same bulb that my CG takes. It is an obscure fitting called P15D-3.

You must have heard that the CG has the Bosch fit bulbs, which is likely true for the later models, but in fact the earlier models take these stupid bulbs. AFAIK they don't do halogen bulbs with this fitment so I have taken the step to replace the whole headlight so I can get a decent bulb in there!

Had you visited your local bike shop then you would now be in possession of the correct bulb for your bike.
Peoples that choose to purchase from online ''Dell-Boys'' deserve all of the misfortune that they encounter.

@Cyclingbiker/nightshadow: Thanks kindly, gents. Did I spy that it's a GS500 lamp you're going for, Cyclingbiker? Certainly something to consider in the future, but a cheap fix to get me back on the road will do for now. Thumbs Up

@Ollie1995: Likewise. Tried to fit it in; wouldn't go, only then did I offer it up to the old bulb and discover they were totally different! Rolling Eyes

@Raffles: You say this... Last time I visited my local bike shop for a sidelight bulb (right before my MOT) he said 'no worries pal, I'll stick it in for you too if you want?'. Excellent, says I. New bulb fitted, off to the MOT station, pass. Imagine my surprise when I got home to discover that my sidelight wasn't working. The 'professional' had put a 6V bulb into my 12V bike, which had subsequently gone pop! Note that I do not blame the seller for my misfortune, but myself for not checking first. Chances are, if I'd gone to the bike shop, I'd have said 'one BA20D 35/35W 12V please!' not let him fit it just to 'be sure I had the right thing' after last time and ended up with the same issue!

Perhaps, more accurately in this case, people who fail to compare old for new deserve all the misfortune they encounter. You live, you learn though, eh? Wink

Personally think it would better to replace the normal with LED bulbs for the indicators/tail light and then HID headlight upgrade. Less strain on the battery and the motor then as well as providing better lighting quality.

Personally I'm deciding on whether to do it and save upgrading for the future.

Just found this:

https://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/goffybulbs.htm

https://www.norbsa02.freeuk.com/MiniPreFocus3lug.gif

Minature Pre-Focus P15D25.3

That should fit your headlight without any modification and give out more brightness so you can actually see what is in front of you.

Also found this:

https://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/hl-770005/

Not sure but it could fit in the plastic holder inside the headlight in place of the current P15D one. It is just press-fit in there and may just be a straight swap so you can then put your new bulb in there. You will have email or call Wemoto to get the sizing of it so you can see if it will fit.

Karma to you, sir. Many thanks. Shall whip the bulb holder out tonight and get some measurements to send to WeMoto. If nothing else, it'd be useful to actually be able to use a more commonly available bulb!

get down the local scrappy, and 'borrow; a H4 3 pin plug, and wire...plenty of room in the CG headlight to fit it just be careful of what wattage you put in there..

Halfords do a H4 bulb holder for just over £3. Ideal for my new H4 headlight which is now fitted and running brilliantly.

https://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_379545_langId_-1_categoryId_255229

I don't think the CG headlight will take a H4 bulb though. The lugs are quite wide and they locate in built-in slots on the reflector (at least they do on mine). The CG headlight has a plastic holder that in turn holds the bayonet fitting for the crappy bulb. It may be able to hold the BA20D fitting but I can't be sure.
